Phyllis Rae Mazer

Phyllis Rae Mazer, 90, of Ellicott City, MD passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

She was born on July 22, 1935, in Oakland, MD to the late Clark Railey and Ferne Alice Beachy Railey. She was the former wife of Bernard Mazer.

Phyllis had worked as a secretary to the President of Ferris and Company for many years and then as a legal secretary for some attorneys and judge. She and her former husband met many years ago in high school. She graduated from Northern High School, Accident, MD. She then came to look for work in the Washington, DC area, lived in Washington before moving to Oxon Hill and then to Glenelg in Howard Co. She had been active in the Howard County Newcomers. Phyllis also enjoyed making crafts, being a homemaker and even creating cookbooks with recipes from notable people.

She is survived by daughter Susan Scheffres and husband Michael of Rockville; sons Steven Mazer and wife Donna of Glenwood and Timothy Mazer of Ellicott City; siblings Dave Beachy and wife Nancy of Accident, MD, Mary Ellen Presgraves and husband Steve of NC, Cindy Stanton and husband Sam of Accident, MD and Sally Poholsky and husband Lenny of Accident, MD. She is survived by grandchildren: Joe, Morgan, Lindsey, Amanda and Ashley and great-grandchildren Logan and Gavin.

Phyllis was predeceased by granddaughter Julie Scheffres.

Services and interment will be private at her request.
