Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greene Funeral Services - South Chapel on Oct. 10, 2025.
With hearts full of love and sorrow, the family of Phyllis Abernathy McDaniel announces her passing into the arms of her Savior. Phyllis, 74, of Dallas, NC, went to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and unwavering love for her family.
Born on March 5, 1951, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Joe and Ruby Abernathy. She was the devoted wife of Larry H. McDaniel, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage, having wed on July 7, 1971. Together, they built a life rooted in love and commitment to God and each other.
Phyllis was the proud and loving mother of Robert R. McDaniel (Twyla) and L. Michael McDaniel (Chrissy). Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she poured her heart into being a faithful wife, a nurturing mother, and an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She treasured her five grandchildren-Aubrey Sutherland (Anthony), Anna McDaniel, Houston McDaniel (Madeline), Josh McDaniel, and Alex McDaniel-and she cherished every moment spent with her great-grandchildren: Kaidon, Anthem, Emery, Andersyn, and Riley. She is also survived by her beloved sister Gladys Harrelson, a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her siblings Clyde, Charles, and Frances.
Phyllis was a faithful member of Bethesda Full Gospel Church in Gastonia, where her love for the Lord and her church family was evident in all she did. Her strong faith was the foundation of her life, and she lived each day with grace, generosity, and a servant's heart. For over 40 years, Phyllis worked in the textile industry at American Efford, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. At home, Phyllis was the heart of the family. She found deep joy in cooking everyone's favorite dish, not just for the food, but for the company. Nothing pleased her more than having her loved ones gathered around her table, sharing stories while she listened with love and laughter in her eyes. She also found peace and purpose in yard work and gardening, tending lovingly to her beautiful flower beds, which brought joy to all who passed by.
Phyllis lived a life of quiet strength, deep faith, and boundless love. She will be missed dearly, but her legacy will live on in the lives she touched and the family she cherished.
A celebration of her life will be held at Bethesda Full Gospel Tabernacle, 2422 Lowell Bethesda Road
Gastonia, NC on Sunday, October 12, 2025, 1:30 PM, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
