Phyllis Miller Obituary
Phyllis Mae Miller was born on August 2, 1945 to Raymond and Naomi (Camp) Smucker at Washington Illinois. She spent her childhood on the family farm with her sister Carolyn and brother Donald, and was a graduate of Washington Community High School.
She received her bachelor's degree from Goshen College in Social Work and went to work for the social services agency of south Bend Indiana. She was Married to Galen Miller on June 1 1968, spent a year as a school teacher in Indiana. Galen and Phyllis the served for three years in Sierra Leone, West Africa with the Teacher's Abroad Program of the Mennonite Central Committee
After returning from Africa she received her Master of Social Work degree from IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana. Phyllis than began her career in social work in Charleston, West Virginia and finished as a therapist in Reno, Nevada.
She dedicated herself to helping others to achieve wholistic health for themselves and for their relationships. She enjoyed nature and spending time outdoors in beautiful places by herself and with others wo shared her love. She loved people and developed deep relations with many throughout her lifetime.
Phyllis retired in Washington State where she enjoyed the beauty of the Olympic Peninsula and spending time with her pet Terrier Poppy. She fought a courageous and determined battle with cancer and died in Port Townsed, Washington on October 9, 2035.
She is deeply missed by her beloved family, Carolyn (Larry Vanice) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Donald (Bertha) Smucker of Stanton, MI, nephew Marcus (Julee) Smucker and their son Daniel of Eureka Illinois, and niece Maria Smucker of Hagerstown, MD, and many friends whom she developed deep relationships over the years. Her final resting place is with her family at Union Cemetery, Washington, Il.
