LIFE REFLECTIONS
Phyllis Mitchell was born June 21, 1947 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Allen Vaughn, Sr. and Lona Mae Vaughn.
Phyllis was united in Holy Matrimony to Paul Mitchell, Sr. on June 19, 1965. To their union, six children were born.
Phyllis was baptized and confessed a hope in Christ at an early age.
Phyllis studied business in college which propelled her career in the field of accounting. She leveraged this expertise with her love of working with numbers and problem solving to achieve a successful 40-year career in the private and non-profit sectors.
Phyllis deeply loved her family and friends and demonstrated that love through kind gestures like "just checking in" or baking a sweet potato pie. Her pride and joy were her children and she told everyone who would listen that "she was proud of all of her babies." Her grandchildren were her heart beat and she enjoyed seeing them thrive and spending "quality" time with each of them. Phyllis never met a stranger and her vibrant energy garnered many lifelong friendships. Without doubt, she loved to have fun, whether with family or friends, and enjoyed going to concerts and events. Phyllis's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will continue to shine through the countless lives she touched, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who knew her.
Phyllis departed this life on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Chandler Regional Medical Center in Chandler, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Paul Mitchell, Sr.; father, Mr. Allen Vaughn, Sr., and mother, Mrs. Lona Mae Vaughn; sisters, Ms. Marylin Johnson and Ms. Barbara Thomas; brothers, Mr. Allen Vaughn, Jr., Mr. Errol Vaughn, and Mr. Henry Vaughn; and one daughter, Carlotta Mitchell.
Phyllis leaves many to cherish her memory and mourn her death, one, sister Ms. Cheryl Vaughn of Fairview Heights, IL; one brother, Mr. Larry (Mary Jane) Vaughn of Belleville, IL; five children, Dr. Bridgitt (Ricky) Mitchell of Colorado Springs, CO, Lona (Calvin) Smith of McAlester, OK, Paul (Hazel) Mitchell, Jr. of Dupo, IL, Craig (Keishaa) Mitchell of St. Louis, MO, and Christy (Tyrone) Mitchell-Skinner of Savannah, GA; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
