Phyllis Elaine Porter was born February 10, 1930, in Minot, North Dakota, to parents Norris and Evelyn (Norsby) Jordheim. She also had a younger brother, Gerald.

She grew up in North Dakota and attended the University of North Dakota (UND) majoring in Home Economics. She met her beloved husband, William (Bill) Porter on a blind date in the Spring of 1949. They continued to date and became engaged on Phyllis's birthday, February 10,1950. They married in August of 1950. They continued to live in Grand Forks as Bill attended UND Law school, and they started a family. After graduating they moved to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. After four years in Dayton, they moved to Ann Arbor, MI, for one year then settled in the Minneapolis, MN, area. In retirement, they became snowbirds living in Mesa, AZ, in the winter and Park Rapids, MN, in the summer. Throughout her life, Phyllis enjoyed keeping up with her many friends, neighbors and her sorority sisters from North Dakota.

Phyllis was by her husband's side as they moved through life with all the challenges of providing for their family. Phyllis provided a loving home, guidance and role model to her two children. She was a highly skilled seamstress, not only making her wedding dress and other formal gowns but also taught sewing classes. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the family time spent at their lake home near Park Rapids, MN. One of her greatest passions was playing bridge and became a highly accomplished player active in several bridge groups.

Phyllis was loving, supportive and always available to help other family members, from pregnancies and births to tragic losses, doing whatever she could to help. She was a godsend to many.

She is survived by her two children, Mark Porter (Cheryl) and Vicki O'Hargan (Bill); grandchildren Brad, Kristin, Emily, Elise and Kenton; her great-grandchildren Harper, Alexis, Colwin, Alanna, Saylor and Avery.

Her wit, humor and love of family and friends will remain in our hearts forever.

In keeping with the family's wishes, cremation will take place and no services are planned at this time
