Phyllis Anne Scherbert

Phyllis Anne (DiSolo) Scherbert, 82, of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29th at Loretto Nursing Home. A lifelong resident of Syracuse, Phyllis was known for her sharp intellect, love of music, and deep devotion to her family and community.Phyllis was born in Syracuse and graduated as a salutatorian from North High School. She went on to earn a masters degree in education from Syracuse University and dedicated her career to the Syracuse City School District as a passionate and inspiring educator.A gifted soprano with a lifelong passion for opera, Phyllis found great joy in singing. She was a cherished member of St. Peters Choir and once fulfilled a dream by attending the Met Gala featuring Beverly Sills.She attended a conservatory of music under the direction of the noted composer Dr. Guililo and was part of a troupe performance in New York City. Her love of opera extended to her pets - Tosca, Figaro, Cherubino and Count Almaviva. Above all, Phylliss greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, who brought light and happiness to her life. Her warmth, generosity, and grace will be deeply missed by all who knew her.She was predeceased by her parents, Rocco and Mary DiSolo; infant son, baby Ernie; and granddaughter, Lauren Grady.Phyllis is survived by her children, William "Bill" Wynkoop (Beth Mandyck) and Hope (Wynkoop) Grady (David) grandchildren, Christopher, Jude, Sarah, Mary, and Dominic; sister, Mary DiSolo (James Zettel); several close cousins including the Bonn, Hinds, Ferrara and Colasanti families. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 6th from 2 to 4 pm at FARONE & SON, INC., 1500 Park St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7th, 9:45 am at the funeral home, 1500 Park St., and 10:30 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St Peter Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. She will be laid to rest in St. Marys Cemetery, DeWitt, NY.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Jonathon Cancer Fund, 5858 E. Molloy Road, Suite 171, Syracuse, NY 13211.
