Phyllis Marie Smeltz

Phyllis Marie Smeltz, 76, of State College, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Embassy at Hearthside in State College. Born on July 13, 1949, in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Donald Patterson and Grace Koser. She was married to her beloved husband, Frank Smeltz, who preceded her in death on January 31, 1985.

Phyllis was employed as a factory worker for KD Tools for over 25 years until the company relocated. She continued working after that at various positions for several years.

She is survived by her children, Denise Russo (Joseph) of Bellefonte, and Eric Smeltz of Pittsburgh, three grandchildren, Christopher Smeltz (Christina) of Lancaster, Jordan Shay (Amber) of Marietta, PA, and Elizabeth Warner of Colorado, and two great grandchildren, Lyam and Lennon Shay, and cousins: Cindy Rasfensterger, Ruth Ann Gibble, Carson Gibble, Jolene Gibble, Vickie Jenkins, Jenny Kosier, Kathy Kosier, and Patricia Johnson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Steve Patterson (Linda Rogers).

Phyllis was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Manheim. She looked forward to church activities and going out with friends. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family.

A graveside service will be held for Phyllis at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
