Phyllis Miles Sumner, 87, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Highland Ridge Rehab Center Dublin, VA. She was born on March 10, 1938, in Christiansburg, Virginia to the late James J. Miles and Martha Reed Miles. Phyllis was a member of the Auburn Baptist Church of Riner, Virginia. She was a beautician for many years and had a salon in Christiansburg and Radford with her husband. Her main hobby was her love of researching genealogy for her family and friends. She looked forward to breakfast on Wednesday's with her many, many friends.
On June 14, 1958, she married the love of her life, Archie H. Sumner, Sr. and together they built a life rooted in love and family, raising two children together.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie H. Sumner, Sr. on June 6, 2023. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa S. Jarrett of Falls Church, Virginia; son Archie H. Sumner, Jr. of Dublin, Virginia, and his late wife Debra A. Sumner; and one grandchild, Tyler C. Jarrett of Falls Church, Virginia.
The family would like to thank all the medical professionals who helped her and the family during her journey.
A graveside service was held on Friday, April 25, 2025, with Pastor Shake Smith officiating and prayer by Assistant Pastor Austin Peyton at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Virginia. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, Virginia.
Phyllis will be remembered for her warmth, her quiet strength, and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
