Phyllis Ruth Warnock

Phyllis Ruth Warnock (nee Shoobridge), 78, of Charlottesville, died on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Martha Jefferson Hospital, surrounded by family.

She is survived by daughter, Constance Warnock; a grandson, Benjamin Stoneking; a son, Charles Warnock; a daughter-in-law, Annette Alvarez; a granddaughter, Sophia; a son, Hugh Warnock; a daughter, Ann Warnock; son-in-law, John Beaver and grandson, Christopher Beaver.

Phyllis was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, in 1933. Her parents were Charles and Emma Shoobridge, and her brother was David Shoobridge. Phyllis grew up in Metuchen, New Jersey, and graduated from Metuchen High School in 1950. She graduated from Beaver College (now Arcadia University) in Glenside, Pennsylvania, with a degree in Home Economics.

After living in the Philadelphia area for a number of years, Phyllis married John Dorrance Warnock, a mechanical engineer, in 1957. The couple moved to Richboro, Pennsylvania, bought a split-level house and filled it with four children and numerous household pets. Phyllis then returned to school, received her teaching certificate from Immaculata College and became a teacher in the Council Rock School district. She retired from teaching in 1993.

While visiting Charlottesville in the early 1990's, Phyllis fell in love with the area and decided to make it her home. Along with her family and close circle of friends, Phyllis cherished her pets, her yard and garden, and her books.

Her sense of humor and strong spirit continues to inspire those who knew her.

In honor of her wishes, a memorial luncheon will be held in Charlottesville at a later date.
