PHYLLIS DORRIS WASSON NEW HARMONY, INDIANA Phyllis Dorris (Fox) Wasson, 94 yrs. old, of Wadesville, Indiana, passed away July 28, 2025 at the Charles Ford Hospice in New Harmony, Indiana. Phyllis was born October 16, 1930 in Posey County to the late Dorris Hunter and Margaret Elizabeth (Stallings) Fox. She was a 1948 graduate of New Harmony High School, where she was a cheerleader and sang in the choir. This is also where she met her future husband, Walter E. "Gene" Wasson. She was a proud farmer's wife and worked alongside Gene on their family farm, while also raising a family. She later went to work full-time at the ASCS office in Mt. Vernon, Indiana for many years. Phyllis was a member of Tri Kappa - New Harmony Chapter. Phyllis loved her flower garden and could grow and keep anything alive. She loved fiercely and was very protective of those she loved. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years; sister: Donna (Fox) Johnson; brother: Allen Fox; sisters-in-law: Elberta Fieber, Mildred Cannon, Sue Vaughn and Eunice Wasson; several beloved aunts and uncles who were very special to Phyllis; nieces: Pat Cannon and Charlene Stallings and a nephew: Doug Fieber. She is survived by her three daughters: Vicki (Darcy) Carlton of Hickory, North Carolina, Cathy "Jo" (Bob) Bulla and Sally (Don) Julian, both of Mt. Vernon, Indiana; six grandchildren: Rob (Dayle) Bulla, Brady (Jane) Gottman, Jaime (Roger) Simpson, Launi (Ryan) Higgs and Joseph and Brenna Julian; five great-granddaughters: Madi (Jonah) Blevins, Megan (Collin) Jackson, Ama and Marin Higgs and Quinn Gottman; one great-grandson: Justin (Loren) Simpson; four great-great-grandsons: Holden and Griffin Simpson, Bonham Blevins, and 'Baby' Jackson, due in December. Also surviving are a brother: William "Bill" (Jan) Fox; brother-in-law: Paul Wasson; nieces: Anita Hawkins, Kelly Mullins, Sondra Harrawood and Amy Henderson; nephews: Roger Cannon, Rick Vaughn, Ross Vaughn and Kevin Wasson; special friends of the family who cared for our parents through the years: Katy Hope and Lois Clark; as well as many special cousins, and great-nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Charles Ford Home and Charles Ford Hospice for their excellent care of Phyllis. There will be no services, per Phyllis' wishes. A burial will be held at a later date In lieu of flowers or gifts, we are asking for memorials to be given in her name to one of the following organizations: The Ribeyre Center, PO Box 162, New Harmony, IN 47631 or the Robert Lee Blaffer Foundation, PO Box 399, New Harmony, IN 47631.
