MICKEY GRIMM NEW HARMONY, INDIANA Michael "Mickey" Scott Grimm, age 65, of New Harmony, Indiana, passed away Saturday, August 9th 2025 of complications following surgery. The musician / drummer was born August 22, 1959 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Sandra "Sandy" Grimm and Robert Grimm. He is survived by his wife, Molly Felder Grimm, child, Grafton Grimm, sister, Kim Grimm Parker and her husband Bob Parker, and multiple nieces and nephews. Mickey also leaves behind extended family and friends from all parts of the globe to cherish his memory. Mickey began his music career as a performer, arranger, and session player. He moved to Nashville in the 1980s and began a career that lasted over 40 years. He was a renowned drummer, recording artist, and touring musician contributing to many albums and performances throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. In 2009, Mickey set the Guinness World Record for the world's longest drum-roll in efforts to raise money to repair the clock tower in the New Harmony, Indiana Ribeyre Gym. He performed with a wide range of artists and venues including Roy Acuff at the Grand Ole Opry, Bone Pony, Amy Grant, Over the Rhine, Jill Sobule, Stevie Winwood, Dizzy Gillespie, Swan Dive, and countless other performers at venues like Wembley Stadium and Carnegie Hall. He was known not just as a musician but as a funny, creative, and smart person who was a friend to all and truly one of a kind. Mickey seemed to never meet a stranger and could frequently be found having in-depth conversation with people he had just met. He was a great storyteller and listener with a gift for helping those around him feel like they belonged. Mickey was somehow both incredibly sincere and deeply silly, able to find a way to bring joy and laughter wherever he went. He loved a great many things including: the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, the Andy Griffith TV show, any animal he encountered, history, and Halloween. While Mickey spent many years in Nashville, Tennessee and Whidbey Island, Washington, he always considered New Harmony as his home town and recently returned there to be near family and friends. Much like the town he loved so dearly, Mickey had great reverence for nature, history, and the arts. Mickey's family would like to thank the nurses at Deaconess Midtown Hospital for their kindness and care. Mickey's legacy will live on not only through Molly and Grafton but with all of those who shared a moment of joy with him. Arrangements are being made to honor him and to celebrate a life well lived. A celebration is tentatively set to be held on October 23rd, 2025 at the Roofless Church in New Harmony, Indiana. More details will be announced as plans develop. In lieu of flowers, please support your local churches, libraries, art museums, and animal shelters.

I met this guy Mickey when we auditioned for Connie Smith in the early 80's. We got the gig and soon became good friends, room mates and brothers from another mother. He was not just an incredible drummer but a state of the art percussionist. He could play the hell out of a pizza box, brake drum or cantaloupe...you name it. Plus you got this kind and sweet soul of a person who could always find something joyful and humorous in any situation. So here's to "Big Mick Tahoe" (an alter ego) you are dearly missed!

Such a sad shock to learn Mickey passed away! He was one of the sweetest, kindest, funniest and most gentle persons I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, yet could turn into an absolute hurricane behind his kit-a level 5 hurricane! In June 2007 I had the huge pleasure of witnessing him perform with Over the Rhine in New Harmony-truly a magical and unforgettable evening. And that´s what Mickey was-unforgettable in every way. It was always such a joy to run into him at different events in New Harmony and get a special Mickey greeting! How blessed all of us are who got to have Mickey in our life. Wonder how long he can drum roll in heaven? Surely a universal record. My deepest condolences to his wife Molly, son Grafton, family and his thousands of friends and fans.

I, and the other drummers in the photo, were so fortunate to be able to know Mickey and be part of our drum corps in High School. We had a lot of fun, and his talent was amazing. What a great loss. I think I can say this for all us, it was pleasure to know you and you will be missed.

Mickey was a wonderful soul. I had the pleasure of getting drum lessons from him for years. Remember playing the drums with him in the parades in New harmony. Such a wonderful person.

I was fortunate to be a member of several bands, with Mickey on the drums, out of Nashville, TN in the 1980's and 90's. He was a serious drummer with a fun-loving personality. In my crowd he's known as "the drummer with 2 different tennis shoes".
I won't subject you to the photo we have of him playing drums with a monkey mask......May his family remember him with a smile on their faces.

I first met Mickey when we were in All City Band together in 1975 or 1976? We shared the love of playing the drums and we were common in spirit. He was the ultimate professional all the while doing so in a jovial way. I'm so sorry he has left us so soon. My sympathy to Molly, Grafton and all his family.

I sent to this message to my local musician friends on the South End of Whidbey Island:

Some of you may have met Mickey in July 2022 (he was in our Maxwelton parade band that first year) or around the Island playing. You also may have heard Molly sing (she is amazing, and another amazing person). Mickey was a teacher at all times and a kind. wonderful positive person, the kind of professional musician (or human) that spreads love and good with everyone he encounters. So long, Mickey, and thank you.

Mickey is one of those people that makes the world a better place. Always so kind and interested in knowing how you are and making you feel so special. I will miss you, Mickey but I know you will be playing those drums in a heavenly band and keeping the rhythm of the entire universe! Sending love to Molly and Grafton and wishing this loss will become more bearable with time. All our Love, Cindy Grafton and family

Such sad news. I feel so lucky to have known him. Such a positive person. What a joy to drum alongside him one night with the New Harmony Artists Guild band, I'll never forget it. His spirit burned bright and touched countless people. Much love to Molly and Grafton and family. You're missing him the most right now and I wish I could give you all a hug.

I went to high school with Mickey. He played the drums for the concert choir. He was a great guy. He got us backstage a few times at the Grand Ole Opry when he played. He always played the drums shoeless. I´ll never forget that. Prayers are with his family.

I remember Mickey doing junior jollies´s at Harrison high school. He lined up all the drums from the band room and did a solo using all of them and then glow drumsticks. It was really impressive and left a lovely memory.

So very sad to hear this news. Mickey always made us better not only by his incredible talent and musical contributions, but his insights, his simple ability to find joy in the moment, and his capacity to add humor to just about any situation, sometimes intentionally and sometimes just by being himself. Peace and courage to his family and loved ones.

Sorry for your loss. I met Mickey through my good friend Addison Ellis in the 1990´s. He was so talented yet so humble and genuine. May the peace of the Lord be with his family and his incredible network of friends and fellow musicians.

For any person who likes nothing better than to laugh and make music, Mickey was just about the best friend you could ever have.
Such a completely unique character, and I mean character. One of the freest spirits I have ever known.
I can't wait to meet again with some of our old friends so we can tell the stories. We'll be able to feel him around us when we do that.
He may have left us, but I find myself smiling just thinking about him. I can't help it.
Stories, we've got.
Thank you Mickey, I love you.
I wouldn't have missed it for anything.
