J. CAROLE WENDEROTH
WADESVILLE, INDIANA
Jeanne Carole Blackford Wenderoth passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025 at West River Health Campus in Evansville. She was 96 years old.
Carole was born November 15, 1928 in Wadesville, Indiana to Walter J. And Lena Mae (Nash) Huck. She had one sister, Sara Kathryn Stallings. She attended Wadesville High School and graduated in 1946. She attended Evansville College and Bramwell College and worked as a medical assistant and transcriber. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Evansville.
She married Thomas Blackford of New Harmony shortly after World War II. Their only son, David Blackford, was born in 1950. They lived in Evansville for three years before moving to Newcastle, Wyoming in 1953 where they owned a small oil field construction company.
In 1962, they moved to Atascadero, California to join family - Tom's sister Ruth and her husband Bob Greenman "Doc". Tom became a junior high school teacher and Carole worked in Doc's office. Tom died in 1987 as a result of a brain tumor, resulting from the war.
In 1988, Carole moved from California to Denver to be with David's family. She especially loved being with her grandsons Mathew and Alexander (Alex). She was a great help morning and night when Alex was born!
She moved to a beautiful apartment with an amazing view of the Rocky Mountains, just a five minute walk to the biggest shopping mall in the country (thus, her love of Talbots ) and David's home. Our whole family was together frequently.
But soon she would return to Evansville for her high school 50th reunion, when she met up with Jack Wenderoth from her graduating class. It wasn't long that she moved back and married Jack, living in Wadesville. When he passed in 2019, Carole moved in to West River. She enjoyed living there until she passed.
She is survived by her only son, David and his wife, Jo Ann of Denver, Colorado. They have two sons Matthew and Alexander. Matt and Amy have three boys and a girl; Alex and Jordyn have two boys. Her step-children include David and Tracy of Murray, Kentucky, Shane and Andrea of Bloomington, Indiana, and Bobbie Christie and Bill of Cynthia, Indiana. In total, 6 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, And a niece, Janet Neely.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Werry Funeral Home in Poseyville, Indiana with burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Wadesville, Indiana.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 100 E Michigan Street, Evansville, IN, 47711.
The family would like to thank West River Health Campus and Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassion and wonderful care.
