Pietro Buontempo

Pietro Buontempo passed away peacefully at his home in Westfield, New Jersey, surrounded by his family, on January 14, 2026. He was 89 years old.

Born to Giuseppe and Anna Maria Buontempo in the small village of Monteferrante, in the province of Abruzzo, Italy, Pietro immigrated to the United States in 1956. He worked for many years as a master carpenter and builder, proudly owning his own business, Elsada Construction, where he built homes for numerous families. He later continued his craft with Local Union 155. Through his dedication and hard work, Pietro helped his sons and their families build homes of their own and establish strong foundations for the next generation.

In 1961, Pietro met Elsie in Cranford, and they married soon after. The couple shared 64 loving years of marriage. Together, they raised their two sons, Peter and Steve, in the home Pietro built on Connecticut Street in Westfield.

Pietro will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, a steadfast father who led by example, teaching his sons not only the value of hard work but also how to be exceptional fathers themselves. His strong work ethic profoundly shaped his sons' professional lives, as well as their roles as fathers and mentors to his grandchildren. He was also cherished as "Uncle Pete" by his many nieces and nephews, always ready to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elsie; his sons, Peter and his wife, Cathy and Steve and his wife, Colleen; and his grandchildren, Pietro, Annabella, Lilliana, and Bryce.
