Placido Jerome Rizzo

Placido Jerome Rizzo, age 90 of Gulfport, MS, left this world after a long beautiful life on December 11, 2025, at home with his family. Placido was born on March 29, 1935 in Glassboro, NJ to his parents, Joseph and Katherine Rizzo.

Placido grew up in Glassboro, New Jersey with his parents and two brothers, John and Joe. Placido was the big brother and the ring leader of the three boys. His baby brother, Joe, Says that Placido was his very best friend, always there for everything while growing up, there for the happy days, there for the not so happy days and all the days in between. He joined the military as soon as he was old enough, serving in the US Navy for three years, the US Air Force and the US Air Force Active Reserves for the next 38 years, totaling an impressive 41 years altogether. At retirement he settled down with his wife, Margaret, in Gulfport, MS. 

His favorite pastime was traveling with his family all over the world taking in many Yankees games and visiting plenty of theme parks along the way. Trips with kids and grandkids (and let's not forget the puppies) were some of his fondest memories. Placido and his wife also traveled, just the two of them, where they have visited nearly every state in the United States. 

Placido loved golf, bowling, softball (especially coaching in the military) and food! Eating and food was his passion and dining out was a must. Most recently as he was growing old and tired, his love for his family shined through. He was so very happy just hanging out and visiting with any and all that stopped by. The belly laughs, super funny jokes, all the loves and hugs and kisses, porch sitting, stories and pictures from the old days... those are the things he loved the most. And those are also the very things that we as his family will miss the most too.

Placido "Pat" Rizzo was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Rizzo; his mother, Katherine Rizzo; his brother, John Rizzo; his daughter, Faye Rizzo; his son, Michael Rizzo and his daughter, Kelli Sowles.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories he leaves with us is his wife of 30 years, Margaret Elizabeth Rizzo; his brother, Joe (Barbara) Rizzo; his sons, Johnny (Patti) James and Robert (Kathy) James; his daughters, Bridgett Dunwell, Colleen (Stan) Lokaj, and Janene (Chris) King; his grandchildren, Britton Dunwell, Patrick Lokaj, Ryan Lokaj, Kylan (Elizabeth) Russell, Zachery Stone, Hali (Tim) Martino, Lexi (Derick) James, and Steven Sowles; his great granchildren, Kylo Russell, Ellie Russell, Ava Seymour, Hunter Seymour, Graysen Martino, Kennedi Martino, Kamden Grimes and Beckham McGill. Also very near and dear to his heart is extended family, Melinda Simon, Scott Simon, Mike Garland, Avis Garland, Aaron Smith and many nieces and nephews. Last but not least, he leaves behind 3 of his very best friends, his puppies, Chipper, Woody and Katie.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi, MS, with visitation beginning at 12:30 pm. Burial at Biloxi National Cemetery will follow.
