Plato John Bageris

Plato J Bageris, age 95, of Troy, Michigan passed away February 22, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving and amazing wife of 70 years, Constance (nee Zazas) Bageris.

Devoted father of Andrea (Doug) Rogers, Jennifer (Jeff) Shandler, and Mary Ellen (Scott) Miller. Cherished Papou (Pops) of Zachary (Melyssa) Shandler, Christopher Rogers, Alexis (Rick) Hamilton, Sam (Marisa) Rogers, Elena Miller, Suzanne (Nick) Heffron, Jacqueline (Kirby) Taylor, Mary Rogers, and Jennifer Miller. Loving great-grandfather of seven. Dear brother-in-law of Aynne Zazas, Christine Leventis (Nicholas), and Diane Bageris. Fond uncle, great uncle, and friend to many.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Eugenia Bageris; his siblings, Christine Dales, George Bageris, and Evans Bageris; his mother-in-law, Mary Zazas; and his brother and sister-in-law Helen and Gus Kokas.

Plato, proud both of his Detroit heritage and Greek ancestry, graduated from Wayne State University and began working for General Motors Corporation in 1953. During his near 40-year career, he developed many lifelong friendships. Plato hired and moved families around the globe in his multiple Human Resources roles in the Overseas Division. He ultimately retired from the Occupational Safety and Health team (with an honorary doctorate) in 1992. Plato was fortunate to have enjoyed almost 35 years of retirement, spending time with family and friends both in the Detroit area and up north in Elk Rapids, Michigan.

Plato will be remembered as a warm, kindhearted, and generous man. He was a wonderful husband, father, and one of the original great girl dads. His friendly and good-natured way provided both a great role model and much enjoyment to all who knew him.

He was always the most grateful for his family, beautiful wife Connie, and "the best daughters in the world." Plato often reminded us how blessed he was to be around at his age. May his memory be Eternal.

Family will receive friends on Friday February 27, 2026, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at AJ Desmond & Sons Funeral Home (2600 Crooks Road, Troy, MI 48084). Trisagion will begin at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church (36375 Joy Road, Westland MI, 48185). Visitation prior begins at the church at 12:30 p.m.

Plato will be laid to rest in the presence of his family at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery.
