Mrs. Portia Mae Adkins Davis, age 82 passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side on May 6, 2025.
She was born on December 27, 1942 on Twin Bridge Road in Deer Lodge, TN and attended the Pleasant Green Church of the Nazarene. She was saved at an early age in this church.
Portia married the love of her life Billy Joe Davis on February 29, 1960. They were married 64 years before his passing on March 15, 2024.
She attended the Deer Lodge Elementary School and graduated from Sunbright High School with the class of 1960 and got her college education at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville. She retired from the Morgan County Head Start Program in 2003 after 37 ½ years of service.
She is preceded in death by her husband Billy Joe Davis; parents Joe and Mable Branstetter Adkins; grandparents Miller Henry Branstetter, Sr. and Lillie Mae Adams Branstetter, Mina and Myrtle Jones Adkins; in-laws Virgil N. and Nancy Ruth Henry Davis; brothers Lowell M. Adkins; grandson Joshua Allen Davis; nephews Jody Adkins and Allen Lynn Davis; great granddaughter Addison Lea Davis; sisters-in-law Lola Scarbro, Dixie Hall and husband Edsell; brother-in-law Junior Davis and wife Jo.
She is survived by her loving children Christopher Davis and wife Lora of Petros, Paula Stewart and husband Tommy of Crossville; grandchildren Stephen and Brittany Redmon of Wartburg and Kristy Davis of Wartburg; special sister-in-law Wanda Adkins of Deer Lodge; great grandchildren Lilly Anna Davis, Morgan and Trenton Mitchell of Wartburg, Kile and Noah Davis and their mother Ashley Davis; Elijah Ruppe and fiancé, Carrigan Hensley of Wartburg, Emma Redmon, Ella Redmon, Ethan Redmon and Everley Redmon all of Wartburg; great grandchildren Connor Pappas and Nariyah Davis of Wartburg. Special people in her life Kathy and Sammy Howard, Sue and Keith Havens, Jim Rine, Deborah Stedam, Mark and Cansadia Branstetter, Roger and Gwenna Adkins and family, Kayla and Kelly Judd, Kendra and Tyler Kent, Matthew and Chemea Adkins and family, Rebecca and Robert Jones and family, Teresa Draper, Misty Venable and family, Michael Scarbro and family, Renita Armes and family, Tammy Norman and husband Mike and a host of extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 9, 2025 at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg from 1:00-3:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Bro. Bill Jones and Bro. Bill Durham officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Green Cemetery in Deer Lodge.
