It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Prentice Leon Carte, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Prentice peacefully journeyed to his eternal home on March 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. Born on January 31, 1938, in Sutton, West Virginia, to the late Elmer and Ida (Martin) Carte, he lived a life marked by integrity, diligence, and a gentle spirit that touched all who knew him.
Prentice answered the call of duty, honorably serving in the United States Air Force, an experience that paved the way for a distinguished career at The Boeing Company. For 42 years, he played an instrumental role in supporting NASA missions, contributing to the extraordinary feats of both the Apollo Program and the Space Shuttle. Upon retiring 19 years ago, Prentice embraced the joys of life outside of work, traveling with his beloved wife, and nurturing the bonds with his ever-growing family.
A man of deep faith, Prentice was a pillar in his communities, having been ordained as a Deacon at the young age of 24 at Westgate Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. His unwavering commitment to Christ steered his life, as he actively engaged with congregations in Columbus, OH; Long Beach, MS; Frisco, TX; and Denton, TX, leaving an indelible mark on each.
Prentice is survived by his beloved wife of 66 wonderful years, Lillian Dodrill Carte, who illuminated his life with joy. His spirit lives on through his children:
Daughters, Melody and husband Brant Nix; Melissa and husband Jay Whitfield,
Son, Matt and wife Erin Hair Carte
He took great pride in being a grandfather to 10 grandchildren—Erica, Brandon, Zachary, Nathan, Tyler, Brady, Haley, Cason, Alex, and Abbey—and was a doting great-grandfather to 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his dear siblings: Charles Carte, Lois Jean Carte Boggs, Reggie Carte, and Rose Carte DeMoss.
In moments of leisure, Prentice delighted in golfing, cheering for his favorite sports teams, and solving jigsaw puzzles. His laughter and wisdom will be deeply missed, but the warmth of his love will forever remain in the hearts of those he cherished.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his remarkable life on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton, Texas. The Visitation will be at 10:00 AM with his Funeral to follow at 11:00 AM.
Prentice will be laid to rest at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on May 24, 2026 at 9:15am. . As we remember him, let us hold onto the words that sum up his devoted spirit:
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
