A memorial service to celebrate and remember the life of Preston Travis Ray Jones will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Chelsea United Pentecostal Church. Preston passed away at Hamra Ranch in Barnsdall, OK on Thursday, May 29, 2025. He was 40 years old.
Preston Travis Ray Jones, a lifelong resident of Chelsea, OK, was born January 17,1985 at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, OK. He was the first born of Randy and Lovella Jones. He has two sisters, Victoria and Patricia, and one brother, Stewart. Preston was home schooled and received his GED in 2004. On July 21, 2020, Preston married the love of his life Jessica Lynn Grigg. She was the true love of his life and most definitely brought out the best in him. Preston loved children and was overjoyed that their union was gifted with 3 amazing daughters, Sarah, Abi, and Lili. Preston excelled at being a father and camping with his daughters was one of the highlights of his life. The love of his life and the mother of his children, Jessica; passed away on April 3, 2023. It was a grief Preston carried for the rest of his life. Preston did though find some solace in his friendship with Jessica Gillen.
From a young age Preston loved to cook and bake and even received awards at the County Fair and 4H for his talent. This love of cooking continued throughout his life, and he enjoyed sharing his creations and bringing others together by hosting cookouts and meals. Preston was a jack of all trades, working many jobs in a variety of fields throughout his life. He was extremely outgoing, so his favorite job was anything that allowed him to interact with people and get the scoop on what was happening around Chelsea.
Preston could fix almost anything and throughout his life he developed a wide range of skills and hobbies. Welding, home improvements, motorcycles, cooking, reading, fishing, camping gardening, and the list could go on and on. He also found joy in helping his friends or loved ones complete home repairs. Preston didn't think twice about getting up on the roof or down in the mud to help you. He might have some grumbling and might let a few choice words to get out while doing it; but in the end, he made sure you knew he was happy to help.
Preston had a lifelong passion for researching and deep diving into topics, using his knowledge to engage in debates and play devil's advocate, even when he agreed with you. Many recall how generous Preston could be, even if he was struggling to get by himself. Preston saw the badge of "outsider" as a badge of honor and as such he would seek out and befriend others who also found themselves on the outside. He spent his final days on Hamra ranch and in one of his final acts of kindness, in his words; he "cowboyed up" and tried to save a mare having a colt.
A young man who has left a legacy that will live on in the lives of his children, family and friends. Preston is survived by his daughters, Sarah, Abi, and Lili, parents, Randy and Lovella Jones, brother, Stewart Jones, sisters, Patricia Jones and Victoria Barrett and husband William, niece, Iris Barrett, and numerous cousins and extended family. Preston was preceded in death by his wife Jessica, grandparents, Phillip and Connie Jones and Betty and Ira Jones.
