Dane and I went all through undergraduate school at the University of Kentucky (1962-66) and continued we as friends until she died in March. Our most recent conversation was a 50 minute one on January 7 a few months after her health had gotten worse the previous fall. We shared a love of horses, Keeneland track events while at UK and continued interest after she was in NYC where, from Brooklyn, I had grown up. I stayed in better contact with her when she moved to WVA and I to Pittsburgh. We spent lots of happy times together over the last 70 years and I will cherish those memories... loved her like a sister. Blithe Runsdorf

My mom grew up with Dane´s mom. So, I had known Dane most of my life. Our families visited back and forth - KY to and from IL. There was know surprise to any of us that Dane wanted to come to UK for her college education. She even invited me to her dorm room while there, even though I was still in HS. Later on after retiring to WV, my husband and I would visit her there, and she would visit us in KY. Our friendship continued filling her parents deaths. As we all were, we we so shocked regarding her tragic, fatal diagnosis - no surprise she went so fast. So, so sorry she´s gone. We lost such a good friend!! She will ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED by us. I met Dane when we were about 6 and our parents both moved into a new suburb in Urbana Illinois. We spent many days exploring the fields and orchards that then surrounded our homes, or roller skating on the roads or walking a mile to the candy shop. She kept in touch over the years with Christmas cards when others dropped the custom. I know she traveled around the world back when few women were that adventurous. She was a confident and wise person. I caught up with her and our mutual childhood friend Jane at her home in WV in 2019 when visiting from where I now live in Australia. I will miss her emails. I feel very sad that she could not stick around longer but I know she was not enjoying good health. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.

she won 4th-grade high-jump competktion by a backward throw of herself over the bar; only one to do that, and she won!

First met Dane when Wanda Lowry said you need to meet this neat lady that bought John's Uncle Hige and Aunt Amy's house across from the cemetery. This was followed by "she is a city gal like you". Wanda and Dean brought her to Farm Club and she became a special friend. My son, Michael, like to talk horse racing with her, and I knew never to call her during a big race or before noon. She was a strong supporter of the Ballengee Farm Club until her health began to fail. She will be missed by all who so enjoyed her company. My deepest sympathy goes out to her brother and family.

Dane was a special friend and neighbor to our family. She said once the "ole fashioned Christmas Eve" spent at our farm was one of the best she could remember. She enjoyed riding horses, especially with my brother, Larry. She will definitely be missed in Ballengee.

Dane was the first person I met at the Ballengee Farm Club. She and I often sat together and had good conversations. Very sorry to hear of her passing.

I met Dane shortly after I retired here in 2010. Dane loved gardening and especially the flowers in her yard. She was very generous with her flowers and was always offering people "starts" from those flowers as long as you were willing to come and dig them up yourself. Several times when I saw her at the Farm Club she would have a baggie of seeds that she saved for me or a recipe that she thought I would enjoy. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

I haven´t known Dane very long but I enjoyed our time she taught me many things in our short time together that I will treasure from flowers, trees, and baking she taught me to make homemade cranberry sauce that I had never ate till now :) she will be missed sending prayers up for her family and friends

I was saddened to hear the news of Dane and n this difficult time my thoughts and prayers are with you.

My first quick memory was being at your parents house and John and Dane were fighting over the swing in the back yard. They both tried to get on it and when they did, the rope broke. Laughter filled the air.

Again I am sorry for your loss.
