Priscilla Root McCook, age 82, of Salt Lake City, formerly of Ft. Duchesne, passed away August 21, 2024, at a care center in Salt Lake City.
She was born December 31, 1941, in Ft. Duchesne, Utah, to Maizie and Grace Atwine Root.  She married Lafayette McCook, and they later divorced.
After high school, she went to school to be a baker.  She enjoyed making desserts of all kinds and had a fondness for Hershey’s Chocoloate, CocaCola, peanuts, and orange juice.  She traveled when she was younger and really enjoyed the pies and coffee at the Frontier Grill in Roosevelt.  She was always friendly, but was outspoken when she needed to be.  She followed her Native American traditions and attended Pow Wows, Bear Dances, Sundances, and sang traditional songs until the end.
Priscilla was a Southern Baptist and liked to study the Bible.  She never said a bad word against anyone.  She  had a special relationship with her grandchildren, and she loved her son dearly.
Priscilla is survived by her son, Myron McCook, of South Salt Lake City; grandchildren, Lafayette McCook, Maria McCook (David King), Jera Mountain Lion; 12 great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephew, Berdeen Mountain Lion; Tammy John; Verissa Appawoo; Richard Jenks, Jr.; Audie Appawoo; Margie (Richie) Whiteplume; and Antonette Appawoo, and many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by two infant great-grandchildren; siblings, Alfred Root, Leah Appawoo, Nelson Root, Willard Root, Katherine Jenks; and a nephew, Bruce Starr.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ft. Duchesne Community Building.  There will be a viewing and luncheon following the services.
Burial will be in the Ft. Duchesne Cemetery.
