Priscilla D. “Prissy” Baker, 78, of Hope Mills, NC (Fayetteville), passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, June 26, 2025. She was lovingly accompanied by a staff minister from her church, who held her hand at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Priscilla was born in Bellaire, Ohio, on November 26, 1946, to the late Donald Dixon Sr. and Johanna Slack Dixon. Prissy was a devoted and longtime member of Antioch Church of God, where she served faithfully in many roles. She will be profoundly missed by her family and all who were blessed to know her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Erdman Baker Jr.; her brother, Donald P. Dixon Jr.; and her sisters, Anita Rambeaut and Denise Colston. Prissy is survived by her children: James “Courtney” Baker (wife Amy) of Eastover; Rory L. Baker (wife Casina) of Pembroke; Sean P. Baker (wife Angela) of Fayetteville; and her daughter Andrea B. “Andi” McBride of Hope Mills, who was predeceased by her husband, Rob. She also leaves behind her sisters, Donna Thompson of Fayetteville and Tammy Georgeson of Illinois; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two special friends she called her adopted family, Amy and Steven Sawicki, along with her dear friend who cared for both Mr. and Mrs. Baker for many years, Rev. Robert Staples. Prissy was cherished by her Antioch Church family, as well as extended family and friends throughout Fayetteville’s plumbing community.
Together with her late husband, Prissy proudly co-owned Jimmy Baker Plumbing Co. for many years. Her creativity knew no bounds—she loved all kinds of crafts and could turn a simple piece of yarn into something beautiful. Many of us have a handmade treasure from her, especially around the holidays when her Christmas trees came alive with her creations. She loved plants (even if she couldn’t keep them alive), but above all else, she loved her family. Visitation will be held from 5:30 PM to 6:45 PM on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 PM with Pastor Stephen G. Johnson and Rev. Robert Staples officiating.
Graveside services will take place at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 30, 2025, at LaFayette Memorial Park, 2301 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Liberty Home Health and Hospice, Rick Lovett, and the many members of Antioch Church who so lovingly cared for and supported Prissy in her final days.
Arrangements are entrusted to LaFayette Funeral Home of Fayetteville, NC. Online condolences may be shared at www.lafayettefh.com.
