Profit Guidry was born on June 20, 1935, in Hammond, Louisiana to Ezekiel Sr. and Fannie (Austin) Guidry, Profit was the youngest son of thirteen, a blessing to his family. He met Arie Lou Crane, on Townline Road, and they married in 1954, beginning a beautiful journey together. For 71 years, they enjoyed long rides filled with love, laughter, and adventure. To this union, they were blessed with nine children. Profit was a devoted provider, taking care of his wife and children until adulthood, instilling in them the importance of family.
Although he did not initially accept Jesus Christ, he began to study the word, attend bible study, morning worship, and eventually, accepted Christ, finding solace in his faith. His siblings would remind him that no man can enter Heaven except through the Father, guiding him on his spiritual journey. In life, the siblings wanted to ensure they remain together in death, the same way they lived in life, where they will all be at rest in the Garden of Gethsemane, a testament to their bond.
Profit attended public school until the eighth grade in Hammond, LA; thereafter, he began working for the family businesses, learning the value of hard work. The Guidry's were well-respected entrepreneurs, owning a smoke house, juke joint, and their farm was visited by shoppers near and far, a hub of community activity. Profit's older brother, Andrew moved to Benton Harbor, after being honorably discharged from the military. Over the next few years, his siblings moved to Benton Harbor, at various intervals, and their parents would subsequently relocate to Scottsdale, MI, seeking new opportunities. Their parents instilled the importance of education, faith, and hard work, values that would guide Profit throughout his life. Profit owned several homes in the Benton Harbor and South Haven areas, a testament to his perseverance. He worked at a junk yard, National Motors, in South Haven, MI; and he subsequently retired from Bosch Automotive in St. Joseph, MI, in 1994, after a fulfilling career.
Someone once said, "where there are one or two Guidry's there is a crowd," a reflection of the love and joy that surrounded Profit. On birthdays, each sibling would give the birthday sibling $50.00 a piece, a symbol of their love and appreciation. And every Wednesday, Profit and his siblings had family night at his brother Ivy's home, a time to come together and celebrate their bond. Profit maintained a sharp mind at the age of 90 years, a testament to his active lifestyle. He enjoyed playing Bid Whist, Spades, Uno, and other card games, staying mentally agile. He enjoyed listening to the Blues; especially, B.B. King, finding solace in the music. The outdoors was his haven; especially when he was fishing, a time to connect with nature. Gumbo, frying fish, and barbecue were staple dishes he made within the family, bringing them together through food. He always kept food whether it was his goat or chickens, providing for his loved ones.
His legacy lives on through his wife Arie Lou (Crane) Guidry; children: Vincent, LaVerne, Dale Guidry from
Benton Harbor, MI; Lisa (Corlin} Moore of Germantown, Maryland; Sabrina Guidry-Hicks from Norfork, Virginia; Mallery, Joseph, Leonard, and Larry Guidry from
