Anna Prue Whitaker, known affectionately as Prue or Nana, passed away on July 28, 2024, Shelby, North Carolina. Born on July 11,1938 in Fallston, North Carolina, she was a cherished member of her community and a beacon of kindness and generosity.
Prue graduated from Fallston High School and went on to co-own and operate Roy’s Grocery in Mooresboro, NC alongside her husband, Roy Whitaker. Her commitment to her community was evident through her active involvement in Sandy Run Baptist Church, where she was not only a member but also taught Sunday School, played on the church softball team, and led numerous groups including the youth and Girls in Action.
Prue’s love for travel took her across the United States with Roy and friends, but she found equal joy at home tending to her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She was an avid gardener, a skilled seamstress, a great cook and a dedicated home keeper. Her home was always a welcoming space filled with love and care.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Roy Whitaker; children, Richard Whitaker (June), Tom Whitaker (Anna), Patti Talley (Paul), and Greg Whitaker; eight grandchildren, Adam Whitaker (Allison), Holly Reid (Chris), Jesse Talley, Logan Hoffner (John), Will Talley (Katie), Abby Whitaker, Brent Whitaker, and Cody Whitaker; six great grandchildren, Kendall Reid, Maverick Reid, Westin Hoffner, Grady Hoffner, Hudson Reid, Holt Hoffner, and Coleson Whitaker. She is also survived by two sisters, Joreka Davis (Larry), and Sue Peeler (Don), and one brother Hatley Wright (Nancy) along with numerous nieces and nephews. Prue was preceded in death by her brother Jack Wright, her parents, Horace and Annie Wright and daughter in-law, Angelica F. Whitaker.
The family will receive friends Tuesday July 30, 2024 at 3 pm at Sandy Run Baptist Church in Mooresboro
A funeral service will be held 4pm Tuesday July 30, 2024, at, Sandy Run Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Tim Hendricks and Rev. Jeff Queen. Burial will immanently follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
Pallbearers include Will Talley, John Hoffner, Chris Reid, Cody Whitaker, Brent Whitaker, and Adam Whitaker.
Cleveland Funeral Services in Shelby, North Carolina, is assisting the family during this time. Prue’s life was a testament to her faith, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
