The funeral services celebrating and honoring the life of Public Safety Officer J.W. Bode, 72, of Enid, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday August 25, 2025, in Emmanuel Enid with Pastor Shonn Keels Officiating, full honors will be presented by the Enid Police Department Honor Guard. Cremation will follow. Private graveside services will be held in the Waynoka City Cemetery at a later date. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings, A life celebration home.
J.W. was born to Billy Bob and Norma Jean (Seachris) Bode in Waynoka, Oklahoma on August 7, 1953, and passed from this life August 18, 2025, in Enid, Oklahoma, as a hero in service to his fellow man.
He was raised and educated in Waynoka graduating from Waynoka High School with the class of 1972. Through high school he played football, basketball, and baseball where he was a Tri Captain and was active in the Student Council. After graduating he attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK. Ater college he worked for a construction company that built Oakwood Mall. He married Kim Meyers in the St. Gregory Catholic Church, of Enid in 1977, from this union came one son Dustin Bode. He moved to Houston where he continued to work in construction. He married Lura Dahlem November 8, 1986, in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, of Enid and from this union came their two daughters Shay and Sarah. The couple moved to Lawton and later Duncan. He attended Cameron University, graduating with his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He then began his career as a Probation and Parole officer. At this time, he also began his journey in Aikido studying with Carl Geis. He was also C.L.E.E.T. certified and taught firearm training throughout the state and was also a lecturer and advocate against drunk driving, due to his parents and sister being killed by a drunk driver. In 2014 he returned to Enid after retiring from Oklahoma Probation and Parole. He achieved his CDL and Bus Drivers certification. He worked as a driver for Stevens Ford. He also taught martial arts at the
Enid Y.M.C.A and at military bases. He then began his career as a security officer working at Emmanuel Enid and later World Harvest Church. He then began his dream job during his retirement working as the Public Safety Officer for Integris Health Enid Hospital where he looked forward to going to work and getting with his fellow staff members and getting to love on patrons
He was a member of the Tuesday Bible Study. He enjoyed being the jolliest of Santa’s at Christmas time. He was very outgoing and never slowed down. He loved country dancing and was a self-proclaimed “Spinner of the tallest of tails”. He cherished spending time with his family and Loved, Loved, Loved his G Babies.
He is survived by one son Dustin Bode and wife Audrey, of Enid, two daughters, Shay Bode, of Lawton, and Sarah Horn and husband Joshua Horn, of Enid; his beloved G babies, Brionna and Sean Bode, and Emily and Jonathan Horn, a niece and nephew, Sandy Kay Blankenship and Donovan DeVilbiss; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Bob and Norma Jean Bode, and his sister, Sharon Kay DeVilbiss.
