Qiyuan Yang, 90, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY. He was born on August 2, 1932 in Hunan, China. After he received his bachelor's degree from Shenyang Normal University, he worked as a college professor and educator for 35 years before retiring in 1992.
As an outstanding educator and hard worker all of his life, Qiyuan brought his community and family together through education and devotion. He was a visionary with goals in mind, calculated plans to reach them, and outcomes that transformed the lives of his students. His passion, kindness and motivation created countless everlasting bonds with those who he touched.
Outside of the classroom, Qiyuan was a loving family man. He cared deeply about his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family. He played a fundamental role in raising and educating his grandchildren and loved to cook for family and friends.
Qiyuan loved to listen and sing Beijing opera, go fishing, tai chi chuan, and exploring new places. He spent time with his family playing Mahjong or cards. He spent plenty of time outside in his garden, channeling his creativity from growing cucumbers to tulips and roses. His hopeful outlook in his life journey inspires all of us to live each of our days to the fullest.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Guiying Shen; daughter, Jenny Jie Yang; son, Harrison Hao Yang; grandchildren, Jesse Yang Liu, Katherine Ann Yang, Kaylee Emily Yang; and 9 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Lakeside Funeral Home, 121 Claremore Dr, Woodstock, GA. Burial will immediately follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery, 410 Whitlock Ave., Marietta, GA.
