Quinton Pearce, also known as Honey, Daddy, Granddad, and QP, was born on April 21, 1941, to Clarence and Hallie Pearce in the Potato Hills of Talihina, Oklahoma. Oklahoma was more than just the place of his birth, it was a place he cherished, returning every chance he got to spend time with his grandparents and cousins.

In 1943, his family moved to Gatesville, Texas, where he would spend the rest of his life. This is where he learned the value of hard work. By the age of five, he had his own five-pound flour sack to pick cotton. His mother always found jobs picking pecans and blackberries, often bringing him along before school until he turned nine and they moved to the farm. Life on the farm meant many chores, especially while his father and brother worked in town. At 13, his family moved back into town, and he got his first real job at Cecil Pearce’s gas station, working from 6 PM to 6 AM for just 35 cents an hour. This strong work ethic stayed with him throughout his life, but if you knew Quinton, you knew he also loved to have fun, even if it occasionally got him into trouble.

During high school, Quinton was known for his love of tennis and cars. And boy, did he love his cars, especially his roadster and, later in life, his ‘53 Chevy.  After graduating in 1960, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, serving for eight years. He married the love of his life, Shirley Baize on April 5, 1963. Over the next decade, he worked at Pearce’s Grocery, Laundromat, and BBQ. In 1978, he reenlisted in the Army National Guard, serving proudly while working at M.A.T.E.S. until his retirement in 2001. Retirement didn’t quite suit him, so he went back to work for Bowhead Eagle and later Ace Hardware. More than just loving to work, Quinton loved people, forming many cherished friendships along the way. More importantly, Quinton loved his Lord and Savior. He was a longtime member of the Ft. Gates Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Vera, and her husband, Carl Grubb; his brother, Wayne, and his wife, Barbara; and his grandson, Kristopher Pearce.

Quinton is survived by the love of his life and extraordinarily devoted wife, Shirley; his son, Steven; and daughters, Denise and husband Tim Veach, and Debbi and husband Scott Marble. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Brian, Marlo, Meagan, Garrett, Kiley, Kara, Audie, and Josie; and great-grandchildren: Emmalee, Boston, Kenna, Hallie, Kipton, Haizley, Ben, Beaux, Hannah, Leila, Wyatt, and Wylee—the ones who made him smile.
