R. Curtis Morehouse Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 21, 2024.
Bushnell, Florida - Rollin Curtis Morehouse Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 83 years old. Curt's final days were spent in the comfort of his home in Bushnell, Florida, surrounded by his loving wife, Deb Beach, and their cherished dog companion, Norton.

Born on December 2, 1940, to Norma White and Rollin C. Morehouse, Curt grew up in Woodstock, Connecticut, and fondly summered at Lord's Point in Stonington. It was there that he built a life and a home for his family, where his love for the sea and community flourished. Curt was a dedicated volunteer firefighter with the Quiambaug Volunteer Fire Department and served as President of the Lord's Point Association. His passion for the water was evident as he spent countless hours boating, teaching others to sail and waterski.

Curt had a distinguished 37-year career as a USAir airline Pilot, where his skill and professionalism earned him great respect. He also had a hand in the early development of Mason's Island Marina, contributing computer code that continues to serve the business to this day. His love for technology led him to teach himself coding, a pursuit that became one of his many passions.

In addition to his professional and volunteer achievements, Curt was an adventurous spirit. He embraced life's thrills through airplane aerobatics, hang gliding, scuba diving, and barefoot waterskiing. His zest for adventure was matched only by his love for animals. Curt's home was filled with the companionship of pets including a bird named Bernie, a squirrel named Buckwheat, and of course, his loyal dog Norton.

In his retirement years, Curt and Deb relocated to a community on an airfield in Bushnell, Florida, where they enjoyed the tranquility of retirement life and the joy of aviation.

Curt's legacy is one of dedication, adventure, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Deb; his children Jack and Amy; stepson: Andy Long; step daughter: Thia Byrnes; his five loving grandchildren; and many friends and community members whose lives he touched. Services will be held in Florida with a final flight ceremony at the Flying W AirRanch in Bushnell.

Heartfelt memories of Curt Jack and Amy! Whilst in college, I recall hardworking Curt quietly contributing to the growth of Mason's Island Marina. What made Curt stand out was his pragmatic mechanical skillset and work ethic. If anything, I believe that Jack benefited from Curt. You cannot have a better role model than him.

Our condolences to the family and friends. I met Curt and Deb as they were beginning to get into the hobby of amateur radio here in Bushnell. From there, our friendship developed; unfortunately, it was not fast enough, as Curt's decline was faster than expected. However, my wife and I reached out to Deb to help in any way we could, mainly through prayer support. But from what little I did know of Curt, I knew he was a man I could respect and whom I would have loved to know better. I guess I will have to wait until I meet him in Heaven to get to know him better.
