R. Michael Dash, 75, of Medina, passed away July 28, 2023.
He was born in Olean, NY on November 2, 1947 to the late Maurice and Jeanne (Ball) Dash.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Barbara (Dailey); children, Meghan (Adam) Engle, Adam Dash, Stephanie (Zachary) Hatfield, Ryan Dash & Kevin Dash; grandchildren, Chase, Kadence, Sienna, Bryce, Ana, Hadley, Joey, Cora, and one on the way; and a sister, Patricia (Michael) Heil.
Mike was a retired U.S. Navy Captain. At the age of 23, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Captain. As part of his service, he established the frozen blood program while serving as department LPO at NNMC Bethesda. Over the following years, Mike served in numerous leadership capacities within Navy medical units. Mike commissioned through the officer's program in 1983. Once commissioned, he held offices of Naval Medical Director of various medical hospitals. In 1991, Mike was recalled to active duty in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm with Fleet Hospital Fifteen, Al Jubayl, Saudi Arabia.
Captain Dash's naval awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and Army Achievement Medal, as well as numerous service and campaign awards.
In civilian life, he was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Medina, the Medina VFW and the Medina American Legion. He was a laboratory director for the American Red Cross in Buffalo, NY and later the Vice President of Operations for the Lorain County Blood Bank. Mike enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 12 noon, Monday, August 14, 2023, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 317 E. Liberty St., Medina, where a Memorial Service will take place at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
