Rachel Peele Fields, 94, passed on Friday, October 31, 2025, with her family by her side. She passed with a smile on her face looking forward to a face-to-face with her Lord and Savior and anticipating a reunion with a host of family and friends.
Rachel was born on March 14, 1931, in Wayne County, North Carolina, to the late Eula Davis Peele and Randle Peele. She grew up in the Saulston Community, graduating from New Hope High School. Rachel married the love of her life, William (Bill) Blaney Fields, on October 28, 1950, and together they made a wonderful life for their family as they worked the soil together and depended on God for their provision.
Rachel and Bill had three children born to their marriage, and together they taught their children the importance of hard work, of being true to your word, of being grateful for all of God's blessings, of being a good steward with what you have been given, and of giving generously of your time and resources to others. Rachel and Bill settled in the Nahunta Community in the early 1960s, and there they became active members of the community and of the Nahunta Friends Church. While Rachel lived a simple life, it was an abundant life in that she gave of herself freely to her family and anyone in need. Rachel would be quick to tell you she was blessed beyond measure, and to whom much is given, much is required.
Rachel entered her heavenly home leaving behind her children and their spouses that she loved as her own – Suzanne Fields Pope and husband, Greg; Nina Fields Jackson and husband, Keith; and daughter-in-law, Kathie Fields, who she loved as a daughter. Rachel also leaves behind grandchildren, Mary Carmen Pope Stanley and husband, Mark; William Randall Fields and wife, Leah; Patrick Ryan Fields and wife, Amanda; and Rachel Jackson Woods and husband, Colton. She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Fields, son, Randy Fields, and grandson, Gregory Forrest Pope. Rachel was also blessed to have great-grandchildren Abigail Fields, Alex Fields, William Fields, and Theodore Fields, and was anticipating the birth of another great-grandchild, Baby Woods in April. In addition to her family that she leaves behind, Rachel leaves behind many others that she loved with all her heart-many that she welcomed around her table, many that she prayed for regularly, and many of whom she left a lasting impression upon their lives.
In addition to being predeceased by her parents, husband, son, and grandson, Rachel was also predeceased by her siblings, Franklin Peele, Peggy Peele Walston, and Elwood Peele.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center of Nahunta Friends Church, followed by a service celebrating Rachel's life at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Interment will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Fields Family Cemetery near the home.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Wilson, whose compassionate staff provided exceptional care and support. They also wish to thank all who visited, prayed for, and assisted in their mother's care during the past year as her health declined.
Flowers are welcome or Rachel requests contributions be made to Nahunta Friends Church, 2537 NC Hwy. 581 North, Pikeville, NC 27863.
