Rachel George was born on March 22, 1929 to Robert Howard George and Mary Coleman George and went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 25, 2025. Rachel never married but adored her 12 nieces and nephews and dedicated many hours to the youth group at Allegheny Reformed Presbyterian Church. Rachel was a librarian for most of her career, first for U.S. Steel, then for Carnegie Library in the Reference Room. In 1973 the Pittsburgh Press published an interview with Rachel about the Reference Room titled Girl With All the Answers. Finally she was the librarian for the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary (RPTS) where she assisted many students, ministers and laypeople. While there she accomplished the major project of digitizing the RPTS library. In 1996 Rachel was awarded with an honorary Doctor of Literature degree by Geneva College. Described in her high school yearbook as "intelligent and studious. Always dependable", Rachel had a major part in providing the background for a play as part of the celebration of the Reformed Presbyterian Woman's Association's 100th Anniversary in 1997. Rachel had a life-long friendship with Martha George, Marilois George and Maribel McKelvey. Rachel was predeceased by her parents, sister Jean Stiver Carr and brothers W.J.C. "Jack" George, Robert Jr. "Bobby" George, and Richard "Rick" George. Burial was private, arrangements through Simons Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the RPHome, 2344 Perrysville Avenue, Pittsburgh at 4:00 PM on July 14. Memorial contributions are suggested to RPTS (designated to the Rare Books Room), 7418 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15208 or Reformed Presbyterian Woman's Association (designated in memory of Rachel George), 2344 Perrysville Avenue Pittsburgh PA 15214.
