Rachel Hurst Obituary
Rachel Marie Hurst of Hazleton, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. She was born June 19, 1946 in Ft. Branch and lived in the Princeton area her whole life. She married Reverend Kenneth Hurst on March 13, 1965 and they were blessed with almost 59 years together. Rachel worked as a caregiver for 25 years and served as a pastor's wife for 45 years. She helped her husband pastoring at Bible Holiness Church in Noblesville for 6 years and at Cornerstone Holiness Methodist Church in Princeton for the other 39 years. In later years, her and her husband, Kenny loved volunteering to help feed the homeless through the D.C. Ministries in Nashville, Tennessee. She was a prayer warrior with a strong unbreakable faith that stood true to her Lord and Savior up to the end. Some of her fondest memories were taking her "#1" granddaughter and "#1" grandson on trips to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and to church camps. Rachel was usually planning the next road trip and dreaming about her next shopping trip to Goodwill to find more "treasures".
She loved flowers and started making floral arrangements in her own home until she enjoyed her work at KRV Floral and Home Furnishings from 2002 until 2010. Rachel was an avid reader and cook book collector. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Rachel is survived by her husband, Kenneth Hurst of Hazleton; sons, Kenneth F. Hurst of Princeton and Randall L. Hurst (Valerie) of Princeton; grandchildren, Lanisa Hurst of Pickens, S.C. and Stewart Hurst (Shyanna) of Imler, Pennsylvania; sister, Shirley Fincher of Evansville; sisters-in-law, Lilian Reed of Pheonix, Arizona and Dorothy Reed of Columbus, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Rev. Frank Reed and Grace (Baker) Reed; brothers, Herbert Reed, Loren Hubert Reed, and Franklin Bertram Reed; sister, Nora Ellen Wilkerson, and brother-in-law, Jim Fincher.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM (CST) Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Petersburg Holiness Church located at 5317 N. Knox Road, Petersburg, IN 47567. Reverend Darrell Satterfield and Reverend Tim Stuart will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Princeton. Visiting hours will be held from 3 until 7:00 PM (CST) at the church on Friday, February 9, 2024.
