Rachel C. Terry

Rachel C. Terry, age 93, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026. She was born on March 27, 1932 in Douglasville, daughter of the late Thomas Ergle and the late Clara Milam Ergle. Rachel was the youngest of 9 children: Chester Ergle, Don Ergle, Gladys Acree, Carolyn Walton, Mary Ellen Hulsey, Idabelle Parrish, Ruth McAdams Edmonson and Dorothy Willoughby.

Rachel was preceded in death, along with her parents and siblings, by her husbands, Allison B. Pope, Paul Furr and Ronald Lynn Terry.

Rachel is the mother of Wayne Marshall Pope (Gloria), Waco, Georgia, Pamela Pope Gaddis, Jacksonville, Florida, and Karen Furr Spivey (Fred), Lithia Springs, Georgia, Ray Terry (Lisa); 6 grandchildren, Julie Hall, Jill Pope, Mikki Burnett, Cory Gaddis (Jen), Derek Gaddis (Julie) Alex Spivey (Courtney), Tiffany Terry (Tyler); 8 great-grandchildren, Grace Hall, Ellery Hall, Nate Burnett, Ben Burnett, Elliot Gaddis, Miles Gaddis, Eliza Spivey, Haddie Spivey.

Rachel worked in printing most of her working career, job shops and newspapers, retiring after 30 years with the Atlanta/Journal Constitution. She was also proud of earning her 1st Degree Black Belt at the age of 62. After retirement she spent a lot of her time volunteering. Her favorite was being a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for abused and neglected children who were in foster care. With the help of her daughter and son, she hosted the annual "AJC Picnic" at the Waco Ranch in Waco, Georgia. This has been going on for many years and it is for the AJC employees and their families and friends. There is a covered pavilion, cabin, stocked lake for fishing, dock, boats and at one time Wayne had bucking horses for entertainment.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Hightower's Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm in the chapel at the funeral home with Bro. Chuck Turlington officiating.

Interment will be at Rose Haven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Rachel has requested those who care to may contribute to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
