In Loving Memory of Rafael Victor Moran

April 13, 1970 – July 29, 2025

Rafael Victor Moran, known affectionately as Ralph or Rafa to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, in Downey, California. Born on April 13, 1970, in Jalisco, Mexico, Ralph brought a lifetime of joy, laughter, and music to all who knew him. He was a beacon of light who lived his 55 years to the fullest, embracing every moment with a heart full of love and a spirit that could not be contained.

Ralph was raised by his mother Maria in the Pico Gardens housing projects in Boyle Heights, a place he was proud to call home. His childhood there was filled with vibrant memories-playing baseball in the neighborhood and forming lifelong friendships that meant the world to him. The strong sense of community and resilience he learned there shaped the man he would become.

His passion for music was evident from a young age and became the cornerstone of his career and joy. As a dedicated musician for 37 years, Ralph's talent and love for the art form touched countless lives. His charisma and connection to his audiences, large or small, made every performance unforgettable.

Beyond music, Ralph's greatest joy was his family. He was a proud father to his sons Adrian and Ralph Jr., and a caring stepfather to Mark and Christopher during his first marriage. He was a father who led by example, teaching his boys the importance of kindness, humor, and wisdom. Ralph found immense joy in being a grandfather. He adored his grandchildren, Adrian Jr. and Audria, and lit up whenever he was around them. He was proud to see his family grow and cherished the time he spent with them, creating memories filled with laughter, hugs, and love. His love for his family extended to his siblings, Sergio, Aurora, Lily, Lupe and Teresa, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. For the past 22 years, Ralph was in a devoted relationship with the love of his life, Susana. For her, he learned to dance and came to love Spanish music-an act of love that brought them even closer. He was also a loving stepfather to Susana's children, Maya and Diego, embracing them wholeheartedly as part of his family. The values he instilled in his family will continue to live on as a testament to the kind of man he was.

He will be remembered for his laughter, his warm and wise presence, and the ability to make any space feel like home. Ralph had a gift for lifting others with his words, his wit, and his unwavering support.

As we remember Ralph, we celebrate a life filled with love, music, and deep connections. We are reminded of the beauty of a life well-lived and the impact one person can have on so many. His spirit will continue to live on in every story told, every melody played, and every smile sparked by his memory. He was a cherished son, brother, father, and friend. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and music-a symphony that will play on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His journey on earth may have ended, but his legacy will forever dance in the hearts of those who loved him.

I remember this one time when I arrived a little late to where Southbound 57´s were playing. As I was getting closer to the venue I could hear Rafa singing, I literally stayed outside to focus on his voice; he sounded fresh, young, clean. I truly enjoyed listening to Rafa, "Rafayel" I used to called him
