Ralph Allan Darrah, beloved son, father, and grandfather, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 73. Born in Plattsburgh, New York on May 13, 1951, Ralph was known for his dedication to his community and will always be remembered as "Papa Smurf", which was a testament to his love for his family.
Ralph dedicated over three decades of his life to serving as a corrections officer for NYSDOCCS in Dannemora, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment. However, his contributions extended far beyond his professional life. Ralph served as a lifetime member of the Cadyville Fire Department for an impressive 46 years. The Cadyville Field Day experience wasn't complete without his famous French fries.
In addition to his professional and community involvement, Ralph was an avid hunter and fisherman which brought him immense joy and fulfillment throughout his life. He found solace and contentment in hunting at "Camp Swampy" with his furry companion Butch. His love for the outdoors was reflected in the cherished memories he shared with his loved ones.
Ralph was also a devoted 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus Council #00255, embodying the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity in all aspects of his life. His kind heart and generous spirit shone brightly in his interactions with others, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the honor of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph J. Darrah and his brother, David Darrah.
Ralph Darrah is survived by his daughter, Penny Darrah, his son Jonathan Darrah, along with his grandchildren Katelyn, Ethan, Ellie, and Xander. Along with his mother Shirley Darrah and his sisters Debbie (Robert) Hare, Sharon (Mike) St. Louis, Jill (George) Dow, and brother Scott (Dell) Darrah.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Heidrick Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY. A reception will be held at the Cadyville Fire Department following the services at the funeral home.
Services were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
