Ralph Lee Robertson

Ralph Lee Robertson was welcomed into Jesus’s arms on August 2, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Maple Hill, Kansas on June 20, 1941 to Ben and Millie (Davis) Robertson. He was 83 years young.

Ralph grew up and spent most of his life in Dalhart, Texas graduating high school in 1959. He served his country in the United States Army from 1960-1962 in Germany with Elvis Presley. He bought an MG Roadster in England on his way home from Germany and had it shipped home which served him well until the Ford Mustang came out in 1965 of which he promptly purchased and of which he still owns. He met the beautiful Nanette Ashlock at a dance in Nara Visa, New Mexico and married her on November 25, 1962 and danced with her until her death in 2004. He and Nanette had two daughters Tamara and Shelly. He met and married Janice Hoobler Robertson on November 8, 2005. They were married for 17 years until her passing in August of 2023.

He joined the Rock Island Railroad in 1962 while in Dalhart and moved with his family to Amarillo to join Burlington Northern (BNSF) in 1978. He had a 40 year career working for the railroad going from a brakeman to a conductor and he retired in 2002.

Those who knew Ralph remember him as a master of storytelling - most stories of which he starred in and most stories were true. His signature laugh was infectious, memorable, and distinctive. He also enjoyed traveling, socializing, and being with his family. Ralph loved rodeo and particularly XIT and he loved attending the National Finals Rodeo often.

Ralph is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Nanette; his wife Janice; his brother Benny; his sisters Ruth Robertson Nichols, and Colleen Robertson Alls.

Ralph is survived by daughters Tamara Robertson and Shelly Robertson Koenig and husband Tim; grandson Daniel McMillan; and granddaughter Sarah Koenig; sisters Leona Robertson Holland and Sue Robertson; and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 6 PM to 7 PM at Schooler Funeral Home at 4100 South Georgia Street, Amarillo, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held at Schooler Funeral Home at 10AM on Friday, August 16, 2024. The family suggests memorials be made to BSA Harrington Cancer Center, 1751 Wallace Boulevard, Amarillo, Texas 79105; or a favorite charity.
