Ralph M. Smith Jr. passed away February 1, 2025, at Emerson Hospital in Concord, just shy of his 93rd birthday. A long-time resident of Groton, he was the son of the late Ralph M. Smith Sr. and Alice (Frazee) Smith.
Ralph attended Lawrence Academy High School and earned his bachelor's degree in education at Boston University. He later went on to earn his Master's degree. Ralph taught at the Mastricola Middle School in Merrimack, New Hampshire, and after many years devoted to his school, he became the beloved principal for 20 years.
Ralph was a member of the Merrimack Rotary Club, Groton Grange, and served as a Pepperell Selectman for 9 years. He loved working outside, and his Christmas tree farm was his pride and joy for over 50 years.
Ralph is survived by his two sisters, Janice Selage and Priscilla Sharp; his three children, Jeffrey Smith, Robin Desharnais, and Chris Smith; his three grandchildren, Levi Smith, Nathan Smith and Sarah Smith, his one great-grandchild Colton Smith, and several cousins.
A graveside service will be held for Ralph on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11:00am at the Groton Cemetery, 242 Hollis St., Groton, MA. Family and friends are invited to gather and further honor Ralph's life at his residence at 162 Common St., Groton, MA.
