Mary Alice (Wheeler) Camerota passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026 due to injuries sustained in a fall.

Mary was born in Ayer, MA on July 8, 1947. She was the beloved daughter of the late Lyle G. Wheeler and the late Rose Marie (Iacobone) (Wheeler) L'Heureux.

Mary graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1965. She decided to pursue a nursing degree and graduated from the LPN program at Lowell Greater Vocational Technical High School in August of 1976. Mary enjoyed a long and successful career as an LPN working in several nursing facilities in the Lowell, MA and Marietta, GA areas. She was a devoted and dedicated nurse, she loved her job and her patients; her passion was with the elderly. She was an avid reader, had a love for all animals and loved crocheting gifts for her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed a good cup of coffee and a cigarette.

Mary is survived by her son, James Camerota and his wife, Alexandra Beswick of Marietta, GA; three brothers, Joseph Siren of Troy, TX, Lyle J. Wheeler of Lowell, and Michael Wheeler of Lynn; two sisters, Laura Thuillier of Lynn and Margaret Cimini of Groton; a sister-in-law Maryann Zottola of FL. Mary is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins including John Cardillo who she enjoyed many rides to the ocean for pizza.

Mary also leaves her good friends, Whitney Leap of Lowell, Charles Codair of Lynn, Beth Savoie of GA, and Kelli Bail of Smyrna, GA. She is survived by her former spouse of 30 years, Robert Camerota of Cartersville, GA. She leaves her faithful and comforting cat, Oreo.

Being Mary's wishes, there will be no wake. A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 14 Phoenix St., Shirley, MA, on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Shaker Road, Shirley, MA.

Mary's family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Sunny Acres Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and compassion during these last few difficult months.
