Helen Camerota Obituary

Helen Camerota
10/4/25
Helen Rose (Ronalter) Camerota
Loving mother, wife and grandmother.
Watertown. Helen R Camerota, age 87, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving children, their spouses and her grandchildren. She was the devoted wife of the late Deacon Daniel A Camerota for 62 years.
Born in Waterbury, CT on October 20, 1937, she was the daughter of the late George Otto Ronalter and Josephine (Sehnal) Ronalter. She attended Sacred Heart Grammer and High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. Over her career as a nurse, she worked for the Cheshire Public Health System, the Taft School in Watertown, and as a private duty RN. In addition, she worked for the State of CT DOC in the medical records department for many years.
Helen leaves behind her four children: Daniel (wife Carol) Camerota, Kristen (husband Robert) Lockwood, Nancy (husband Mark) Perron, Stephen Camerota, her four grandchildren: Nicholas, Danielle, Camille, Lydia and a sister-in-law Barbara Ronalter all of whom she loved with all her heart. She was predeceased by her husband Daniel, her father George and mother Jennie, her brother George and half-sister Ruth Garthwait.
She had a passion for quilting and knitting and participated in the prayer shawl ministry at St. John's Church in Watertown. She voluntarily taught religious education and reading to children in the Waterbury school system. Her greatest joy and lifelong goal was to be a mother. Her gifts of unconditional love, selflessness, and service to her family and friends defined her life and has been an inspiration.
She was known for her warmth, generosity, kindness and her unique sense of humor. She had a "spicy" personality and as her grandchildren would say ... "She was a feisty one!". She leaves an enormous hole in the hearts of all who knew her but with so many precious memories including family vacations to Maine and Old Saybrook and annual trips to Lake George.
Helen's family would like to thank the "Freedom Riders" for being such wonderful friends and enriching her life, and extend their heartfelt gratitude to her aides Felicia, Renee, Ann Marie and Brittany who treated her as their own mother. We are forever grateful for the compassionate and exemplary care they showed to Mom and will miss their presence in our own lives. "By His Grace" we have been blessed.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 10th at St John the Evangelist Church, 574 Main St., Watertown. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet directly at the church Friday morning. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 9th, 2025, at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown.
