Judith Stevens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mahoney Funeral Home on Mar. 27, 2026.
Judith Ann Stevens
March 21, 1938 – March 24, 2026
Judith Ann Stevens, beloved aunt, neighbor, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at D'Youville Senior Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. She was 88 years old, having just celebrated her birthday on the first day of spring, March 21st, surrounded by the family she cherished.

Born in Lowell on March 21, 1938, to Catherine and Elmer Stevens, Judy was a lifelong daughter of the city she loved. She attended Lowell High School, where she laid the foundation for a life marked by service, warmth, and quiet dedication to her community.

Judy built a career rooted in caring for others. She served the Lowell community as a clerk at the YMCA and at UMass Lowell, and extended that spirit of generosity through her volunteer work at McAvinnue Elementary School. In every role, she brought the same quiet attentiveness and reliability that defined her character.

Those who knew Judy treasured her for her kindness, her thoughtfulness, and her surprisingly wicked sense of humor - a wit that could catch you off guard and leave you laughing long after she'd delivered the punchline. She had a gift for making people feel seen and cared for, and she exercised that gift generously, right up to the end.

Her niece and nephew, Amy and David Stevens, will carry her with them always. They remember with particular tenderness the care packages she sent during their college years - small, tangible acts of love that arrived at exactly the right moments. Aunt Judy had a way of knowing.

Judy was preceded in death by her sister Barbara, who passed away in childhood; her brother John Stevens, who died in May 2025; and her beloved sister-in-law Nancy (McHale) Stevens, who passed away in October 2025. She is survived by her niece Amy Stevens and her nephew David Stevens, along with extended family and a community of friends whose lives she touched across eight decades in Lowell.

The family is deeply grateful to the compassionate staff at D'Youville Senior Care and the team at Beacon Hospice for the kindness and dignity they brought to Judy's care.
May she rest in the peace she so generously gave to others.

On Monday, April 6, 2026 all are welcome to attend her burial service. Please meet at 10 a.m. at the Mahoney Funeral Home, 187 Nesmith Street, Lowell for procession to Edson Cemetery, 1375 Gorham Street, Lowell, for her graveside service at 10:30 a.m.
