Daniel Camerota Obituary

Dcn. Daniel A. Camerota
May 27, 2025
Loving husband, father, grandfather and Deacon.
WATERTOWN- Daniel A. Camerota, age 90, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at home surrounded by his wife and children. He was the devoted husband of Helen R. (Ronalter) Camerota for 62 years.
Born in Waterbury, CT on October 11, 1934, Dan was the son of the late Daniel and Helen (Colangelo) Camerota. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a mechanical engineer for the Bristol Company for over 35 years before becoming a manufacturer's representative for the company for another 17 years.
Besides his wife, Helen, Dan leaves behind his four children: Daniel (wife Carol) Camerota, Kristen (husband Robert) Lockwood, Nancy (husband Mark) Perron, and Stephen Camerota and his four grandchildren: Nicholas, Danielle, Camille, and Lydia-all of whom he loved "to the moon and back." He was predeceased by his sister Sandra and leaves his other sister, Cindy Kwasinskas of Prospect; sisters-in-law Barbara Ronalter of Naugatuck, Barbara Montambault of Milford, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He cherished his time with his family, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Whether fishing with his grandson or going on dinner dates with his granddaughters, he always made time to be present in their lives. He loved the CT shoreline and looked forward to his annual vacation to Old Saybrook-his favorite place to be with all his family.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and an occasional cigar. He was a die-hard UConn basketball fan, his alma mater. He was an avid golfer and relished playing with his lifelong friends and co-workers from the Bristol company, and with members of Crestbrook Park senior league, making treasured friendships along the way.
Dan served his beloved parish, St. John the Evangelist in Watertown, first as a Eucharistic Minister for many years, and then, after answering the call of the Lord, entered the Deaconate in the Archdiocese of Hartford. In March of 1980, he was ordained a deacon in the Roman Catholic Church and continued serving the parish community of St. John's for 40 years. Lovingly known as Deacon Dan, he dedicated his life to the faith and love of God, helping and touching countless lives. He will be missed by so many.
Dan's family would like to send their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Midstate Medical Center, as well as Dr. Barczak and his team for the exceptional care and compassion that was shown to our father. To our homecare aides - Felicia, Renee, Ann Marie, and Brittany-thank you for your unwavering dedication and genuine compassion you have provided to both mom and dad. We consider you family. A special thanks to all the parishioners and friends who supported Dan and his ministry in the 40 years he served at St. John's.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 574 Main St., Watertown. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet directly at the church Wednesday morning. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main Street, Watertown.
For those who would like to honor Dan through a charitable donation, memorial contributions can be made in his name to Holy Disciples Parish, 21 Academy Hill Rd., Watertown, CT 06795.
