Ralph Joseph David Stark, a dedicated patriot and beloved member of the community, passed away on February 2, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on January 7, 1937, Ralph lived a life marked by, commitment, a deep love for his family, country, and faith.
Ralph's military career began with his enlistment in the United States Navy Reserve on September 27, 1954, followed by an honorable discharge to join the United States Air Force on October 14, 1955. During his Air Force service, Ralph underwent basic training at Sampson Air Force Base in New York and continued his education at the Institute of Far Eastern Languages at Yale University to study Mandarin Chinese. His exceptional abilities and dedication led him to serve in significant capacities, including as a Chinese Radio Intercept Operator with the 6922nd Radio Group Mobile during a critical period in Korean history and later as an Intelligence Analyst with the 6902nd Special Communications Group in Japan. Ralph held Top Secret Security Clearance throughout his military tenure, ensuring the safety and security of his country.
Following his military service, Ralph transitioned to a prominent role in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where he served from 1961 to 1964. His tenure included assignments in the Domestic Intelligence Division and his involvement during historical events such as the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He received commendations for his work, including recognition from prominent figures like FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover and U.S. Attorney General Robert Kennedy.
In the later years of his career, Ralph continued to serve the public through the U.S. Civil Service Commission and subsequently, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, holding various investigative roles until his retirement in 1999. Throughout his service, he maintained Top Secret and Q Security Clearances for the Nuclear Weapons Program, demonstrating his unwavering reliability and dedication to his responsibilities.
Ralph was also a man of deep faith and community spirit. He and his late wife, June Louella Hollingsworth, were actively involved in organizing churches during their time in South Carolina and Tennessee. His commitment to his faith was evident in his roles as an elder, Sunday School teacher, and active participant in various church activities, including serving as a Gideon and being a church representative to a Boy Scout Troop.
Ralph's dedication extended beyond his military and professional life; he was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans and an illustrious patriot. He shared his love with his wife and his community, embodying the spirit of service and devotion throughout his life.
He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Marie Hunt. Ralph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, June Louella Hollingsworth, and his parents, Ralph David Stark and Pultz Marjorie.
A graveside service to honor Ralph's life and legacy will be held at Green's Chapel Cemetery in Cleveland, AL, on February 5, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
