Ralph S. Tommaro

Ralph S. Tommaro, 84, of Clifton passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
Born and raised in Passaic, Ralph had been a resident of Clifton since 1966. He was a renowned hairdresser operating Maria-Rafael's in Clifton for over 40 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and continued to serve as a reservist until 1960. Ralph was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle RC Church in Clifton, was a member and former President of UNICO and a longtime member of the Montclair Beach Club.
Ralph was predeceased by his parents Frank and Pearl (nee D'Auria) Tommaro and his dearly missed daughter, Monique Tommaro.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria (nee Scancarello) Tommaro of Clifton, by two loved and devoted daughters: Jeanette Avallone of Demarest and Nicole Kovar and her husband, Marc and son-in-law, John Nyire; three dear sisters: Lucille Boland and her husband, Tom, of Chatham, Theresa Catena of Montville, and Arlene Dolberry and her husband, Rodney, of Clifton; five cherished grandchildren: Jonathan Avallone (27), Rachel Kovar (25), Jack Ralph Avallone (25), Isabella Kovar (21), and Jack Nyire (14).
He was an avid entertainer at his home on Summit Road. He loved cooking for family and friend so much that his home became known as "Café 31." Many nights were spent with amazing food, cocktails, cigars, music, dancing and much laughter in his immaculate backyard.
Other than being a loving devoted parent, his greatest joy in life were his grandchildren who he adored. He had a special and unique relationship with each one. His witty humor created lasting memories that will be talked about and cherished forever.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 3th at 11:30am at St. Philip the Apostle RC Church, 797 Valley Road, Clifton. Inurnment of ashes to follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery Mausoleum, Lodi. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Tunnel to Towers Foundations(www.t2t.org/donate/), 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306, would be appreciated.
