Ramon Martinez Obituary
Ramon G. Martinez, Sr. passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 9:00am in the Tuscola Cemetery, directed by Fry-Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 12th, from 5 to 7pm a the funeral home.
Ramon was born on May 30, 1941 in Mathis, Texas to Antonio and Maria Martinez.
It was love at first sight when Ramon saw Rosa when he was just 12 years old and she was 17, but it wasn't until he was 19 and her 24 that they were married on June 15, 1960. They moved to Tuscola, Texas in 1963 where they lived very happily and raised their beautiful family. The house grew as the family grew, from a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom to a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home built with his hands. In his early years, he was a drummer in a conjunto band and never missed a chance to play on the accordion. He was an extremely hard worker and knew how to do just about anything. He retired from Jim Ned CISD and spent his retirement years keeping busy picking pecans and doing odd jobs. He never met a stranger and knew just about everyone in town.
Ramon is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Maria Martinez; son Angel; siblings Juan Martinez, Pablo Martinez, Arculano Martinez, Espirion Martinez, Bruna Lopez, Francisca Reyna, Maria Moreno, Socorro Charles, and a niece raised as sister, Delia Garza.
Ramon is survived by his wife Rosa; children Elsa Quintanilla, Esmeralda (Miguel) Solorzano, Ramon (Maria Isela) Martinez Jr., Ernest Martinez, and Robert (Michelle) Martinez; sister Julia (Manuel) Nava; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed by the love of his life and all of his family and friends.
