**Biography of Randall Layne Wood** Randall Layne Wood, born on October 14, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, brought joy, inspiration, and laughter into the lives of everyone he met. From his early days in Sioux City to his later years in Houston, Texas, Randy lived a life rich in experiences and filled with cherished moments that left a lasting legacy. He is survived by his daughters, Nichole and Jill DePriest, son-in-law Douglas. As a proud grandfather, he found immense joy in the achievements of his grandson, Sergeant Jakob Mendoza of the United States Marine Corps, and granddaughter Carrol, still young, but loved to banter with. Randall's affection for his siblings, sister Bonnie and brother Kenneth, along with his sister-in-law Rita, were integral parts of his life, as were his nephews Layne, Jason, and Dean, who admired him deeply. Throughout his life, Randy wore many hats. He was not just a family man; he was an artist at heart. His passion for composing and playing music served as a profound outlet for his creativity. Whether it was strumming the guitar, or playing his drums with friends or crafting thoughtful melodies alone, music was his sanctuary. His love for sports was as vibrant as his musical endeavors. He was an avid follower of college football (oregon ducks was his favorite) and baseball ( astros), often spending weekends cheering for his favorite teams. When he wasn't caught up in the excitement of a game, you could find him playing a game of pool or enjoying peaceful kayak outings on the water, where he felt a deep connection to nature. Fishing was also a favorite pastime, allowing him to find tranquility while waiting patiently for a bite. Each adventure was not just an escape but a chance to reflect on life and appreciate its simple pleasures. Randy had a knack for woodworking, often transforming ordinary pieces of wood into beautiful, functional art. His creations were testaments to his creativity and craftsmanship, reflecting his gentle spirit and dedication to craftsmanship. As Randall transitioned to his final journey on August 20, 2025, in Houston, Texas, he left behind lessons of resilience, creativity, and an appreciation for life's fleeting moments. In accordance with his wishes, a part of him will find peace resting with his beloved parents in Sioux City, while another part will be set free in a body of water, symbolizing his free-spirited nature and love for the elements. Randall Layne Wood's life may have been finite, but his spirit and the memories he created with family and friends will resonate eternally. His story inspires us to embrace our passions, celebrate our loved ones, and make the most of each day. As we remember Randy, let us carry his love for music, the outdoors, and family, continuing to share his joy with the world... Where words fail, music speaks.
