RANDOLPH STEINERT Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 24, 2025.
Randy Steinert, 78, formerly from Oshkosh, Wisconsin and currently from Barefoot Bay, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, after years of battling Vascular Dementia, at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida.

Randy was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Joyce (Miracle) and Gilbert Steinert. Randy married Kathy Weitz on February 22, 1964. Randy worked for the City of Oshkosh Police Department for 24 years, retiring in 1992. He served 12 years as Sergeant and Shift Commander on night shift and then 12 years on day shift where he gained the respect of his co-workers and friends. He also was a Bailiff for the Winnebago County Courthouse. Randy enjoyed life, family and friends and was always there to brighten the lives of others with his quick wit and crazy sense of humor. In 2013, Randy and Kathy moved to Barefoot Bay, Florida.

Randy had a lifelong passion for the water and sailing. After retirement Randy took his sailboat, Seaquest, on a 29 day adventure from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to Tarpon Springs, Florida. He sailed down the Tombigbee waterway down to Fairhope, Alabama and then spent 82 hours of sailing the Atlantic Ocean from Fairhope to Tarpon Springs. It was his dream come true. He also pursued many sailing adventures to Key West, Dry Tortugas and surrounding areas. Randy also loved to golf in Oshkosh and Barefoot Bay. In Wisconsin, he so enjoyed his weekly golf game and lunch with the boys at Players.

Randy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Kathy Steinert, sister in law, Judith (Richard) Leinweber of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, niece, Laurie (Steve) Mierswa of Pickett, Wisconsin, nephew, Craig (Michelle) Leinweber of Ripon, Wisconsin and great nieces and nephews, Sabrina Mierswa (fiancé Taegh Sokhey), Walnut Creek, California, Jacob Leinweber (fiancé Hilary Kempenaar and her children) Samuel Leinweber and Madalyn Leinweber of Ripon, Wisconsin.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents Joyce and Gib, his mother in law Margaret(Bernhardt) Weitz Bradley, father in law, George Weitz and Margaret's second husband Dale Bradley. He also was preceded in death by his beloved son Steve Steinert on 9/17/2020 and wonderful daughter in law Ann (Pistohl) Steinert on 3/17/2024.

I had the good fortune to have work side by side with Randy. As a rookie cop many years ago and working with Randy, he always portrayed calmness in any situation. He would say,"always better to think first and then act, saves on the paperwork." He was there to have your back on patrol and as a supervisor. He was respected and an example for all in law enforcement to follow. Rest in peace Randy.

He was a true friend for all of the 24 years we worked together, he will never be forgotten. Before the PD we worked together at Rockwell International. Friends like Randy only come once in a lifetime, I am so grateful to have know him.
