Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation ServicesRandolph Carl Tharp, Age 81, born July 16, 1944, in Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on March 25, 2026, in his hometown. He was a respected community figure, known for his dedicated service, outgoing personality, and numerous interests.
Randolph’s distinguished career began with his honorable service in the United States Navy, where he served as a Machinist's Mate Third Class for two years, achieving the rank of petty officer. Following his military tenure, he committed 30 years to the Battle Creek Fire Department, retiring in 1995 as a Captain. He continued his employment at Traffic Signs Inc., where he remained employed until 2025. An alumnus of Kellogg Community College, Randolph earned an associate degree. Years later, he taught fire science classes at KCC to educate the next generation of aspiring firefighters, further underscoring his dedication to the fire service and commitment to his community.
On August 13, 1967, Randolph married his beloved wife, Tamara, in Battle Creek. Their life together was marked by shared adventures traveling across the country. Randolph enjoyed playing ice hockey at the Kellogg Center Arena and was an avid go-kart racer for over 10 years, competing all over southern Michigan. He also enjoyed attending his military ship reunions, shooting sports, and was a devoted fan of the Red Wings and the Detroit Lions.
Randolph is survived by his son Brian (Sharon) Tharp of Greeneville Tennessee, daughter Vicci Tharp of Coldwater Michigan, sister Carole Robbins of Battle Creek, two grandchildren William & Chelsie, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his wife, Tamara Tharp, and his parents, Carl and Elizabeth (Greenman) Tharp.
A visitation will be held on April 8, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Richard A Henry Funeral Home, 703 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015. The funeral service will follow on April 9, 2026, at 12:30 PM, concluding at 1:30 PM at the same location. A small graveside service will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery at 2:00pm. Randolph’s legacy of service, family devotion, and zest for life will be warmly remembered by all who knew him.
