Randell Jay Leavitt, 70, of Asotin, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025, at North Idaho Advanced Care Hospital in Post Falls, with his wife, Tula, by his side. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend whose steady presence and kind heart touched many lives.
Randy was the oldest of 10 children, born on Sept. 3, 1954, in Ontario, Ore., to Boyd and Edith Leavitt. He attended Clarkston High School and left after his junior year to proudly serve in the United States Army. While stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington, he earned his high school diploma from Fort Steilacoom Community College. He served as a sergeant with the 138th Military Police Company and was also stationed in South Carolina. Randy often shared stories about his time overseas in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1978.
After his military service, Randy loved fishing with his brother Terry and camping with his family. He also started Help-U-Move, which later became known as Asotin Moving Company. He ran the business for over 25 years, serving the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley with honesty and hard work.
He first married Cecile Wood on Feb. 17, 1972. Together they had two daughters, Lucia and Laura. Following his return from overseas service, he and Cecile later separated. On May 13, 1976, he married the love of his life, Tula (Lepisi) Leavitt. They shared an enduring 48-year marriage filled with love, support and family, and together they had a son, Benjamin.
Randy always aimed to put family first. He loved spending time with his children and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He rarely missed a sporting event, school activity or chance to boast about their accomplishments. He also loved to barbecue and was happiest when feeding others. His hospitality extended to anyone who walked through his door. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, help you move at the drop of a hat, or sit and talk for hours just to keep you company. Randy's generosity, loyalty and love for connection were some of the many things that made him unforgettable.
He is survived by his wife, Tula Leavitt; his children, Lucia (Jason) Charley, Laura (Bo) Leavitt-Rose, and Ben (Tara) Leavitt; and his grandchildren: Shalene Harris and Cody Charley (Lucia), Alex Cooley, Samantha Nicholson, Ashley Hartman, Ci-ci Chavez and Casey Chavez (Laura), Ella, Laela and Su'a Leavitt (Ben). He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.
Randy is survived by his father, Boyd Leavitt, and his siblings: Dan (Billie) Leavitt, Terry (Norma) Leavitt, Rick (Leona) Leavitt, Tammy (Ben) Hudson, Cindy (Randy) Welker, Shane (Lori) Leavitt and Jason (Heidi) Leavitt.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Leavitt; his sister, MaryAnn Leavitt; and his brother, David Leavitt.
A celebration of life will be held on 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Asotin City Park. The family would like to thank everyone for the continued love, support and prayers.
