Randy Narveson Obituary

Randy DeWight Narveson, 69, of Urbana, Iowa, died Thursday, October 10, 2024, after suffering complications from a heart attack. The family will host a Celebration of Life from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Urbana Methodist Church, 5547 32nd Avenue, Urbana, with a prayer service beginning at 4 p.m. A man with the laugh everyone knew, he was making jokes with the nurses until the last moments of his life. DeWight was born May 26, 1955, in Missouri, the son of Loren and Viola (Rick) Narveson. He graduated from Urbana High School with the Class of 1974. DeWight began his career in heating and cooling before transitioning to Rockwell Collins, where he ultimately retired. DeWight was known for his sense of adventure, his humor, and the unforgettable memories he created with family and friends. He shared many fishing trips with loved ones, though not without a few mishapsâ€"like the time he accidentally cut the spoon off the wrong end of the line three times in a row. He was known for always being a "coach" to many, as he always had an opinion on how he would approach a situation, which many times involved duct tape when fixing things. His goofy sense of humor and lively spirit also showed through in small, everyday moments, like the way he kicked his feet to the side when shooting hoops or danced with a cackle that always left everyone laughing. He had an adventurous streak, and one of his more infamous moments was mooning a group of hot rod kids with his friend Tom Elias at Backbone Bridge, proving that DeWight's youthful spirit never faded. Survivors include his mother, Viola Narveson of Urbana; son, Austin (Katie) Narveson of Urbana; daughter, Amber (Eric) Cress of Center Point, Iowa; six grandchildren, Harley, Hayden, Landyn, Grady, Peyton, and Kendall; sisters, Teresa Gorsh of Urbana, and Deborah Montgomery of Tipton, Iowa, and his beloved dog, Ava. He was preceded in death by his father, Loren Narveson and sister Trudy Narveson Those wishing to make a memorial donation in DeWight's memory are requested to direct their gifts to Benton County Conservation.
