Randy Poehlman Rhodes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend sadly passed away on November 5, 2025 in Newport, VA after a long illness. He was born on July 26, 1951 at Quantico Marine Base, Virginia to Bernyce and Jefferson Rhodes.

Randy and his siblings traveled the world and enjoyed many adventures with his Army family, living at Vint Hill Farms, VA, Heilbronn, Germany, Ft. Kobe and Ft. Clayton, Panama Canal Zone, Bamburg,Germany and Fayetteville, NC. Randy attended high school in Frankfurt, Germany. Upon returning stateside, he attended NC State, Lumberton and earned a Master's Degree in Industrial Arts at Appalachian State College.Once Randy moved to the mountains, he found where his heart truly resided and never ventured far from them.

He was a jack of all trades and master of many which included teaching industrial arts in high school, pottery, woodworking, leather tooling, farming, and delivering mail to name a few. Randy will be remembered for his quick wit and easy chuckle, especially when with his grandsons.

He is preceded by his wife of thirty-nine years, Phyllis. He is survived by their daughter Rylee Rhodes [Nathan] and grandson Evan and son Ross Rhodes and grandson River. He is preceded by his two siblings, Jonathan Rhodes of Hampton, VA and Rosalind Maseley of Florida. His two surviving siblings are: Jefferson Rhodes of Reading, PA and Rhett Rhodes of Frankfurt, Germany. He is also survived by 9 nephews and nieces and 9 great nephews and nieces.

The family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to your favorite charity. A guestbook is available to send condolences to the family by visiting www.kendallfuneralhome.com. The staff of Kendall Funeral Home are honored to serve the Rhodes family.
