Raúl Jose Lüdert

Raúl Jose Lüdert, 79, of Alexandria, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Raúl was born in Caracas, Venezuela, to Rodolfo Lüdert and Josefina Lüdert Cabrera on September 6, 1946. In 1972, at the age of 25, Raúl immigrated to the United States in search of the American Dream. The day he arrived in the United States he met the love of his life, Juana, and they married on April 10, 1974.

Raúl studied Maintenance Engineering and worked as the building engineer and security for the Organization for American States and Euram Building in Washington, DC, for over 35 years. In addition to his work in the skilled trades, Raúl also had a variety of other passions and hobbies. He was an avid and accomplished hunter. He took pride in teaching his children the skills and respect of deer, bear, and turkey hunting. He was an amazing do-it-yourselfer. He was everybody's handyman and auto mechanic. He even knew how to sew, how to draw and spent some time designing jewelry. He was passionate about passing on his family's Venezuelan culinary traditions from arepas to his annual Christmas hallacas.

He leaves behind a legacy his family will carry forward. He taught his children the meaning of hard work, fairness, integrity, generosity, and most of all love. His quick wit, humor and strength of character was known by everyone he met, and he was beloved by all those whose lives he touched.

Raúl was preceded in death by his parents Rodolfo and Josefina and his brothers Rodolfo and Luis.

Raúl is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Juana; his children Janet and Raul (Bonnie); sister Yvonne; and granddaughter Ella.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9, from 5:00-8:00pm at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, April 10, at 11:00am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Alexandria, VA, officiated by Father Andrew Clark. Burial will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA, at 2:00pm.
